Tech school in a 1 year computer specialist course - using windows, PC hardware troubleshooting, HTML, and we were supposed to have NT networking class but the teacher was a moron and couldn't even figure out how to get NT loaded onto our laptops. This course was pretty much a waste of time and money

6 months at computertraining.com for the MS certs. I got my MCSA cert. Didn't get MCSE because that test was SQL which is way above my head. I didn't understand it at all.
Another waste of time and money because it didn't get me anywhere.

I also didn't really apply myself to this course and since it took 2 years to find a job that had anything to do with what I learned there, I pretty much forgot everything.

everything else i know about computers is self taught.

my title is network admin but i'm just tech support. all i do is fix printer jams, replace UPS units, install patches on workstations, etc.

there's nothing for me to get promoted to.
i don't have any experience or knowledge
i don't want to commute 3 hours each way.
can't afford a place in a low income area now, what makes you think i can afford a place somewhere else?
i don't want to drive any further than that.
i am not driving for several hours a day just to get to and from a job.
i have no experience or education for much of anything.
i won't be getting anything but ****** low paying jobs with my current skillset
i don't want to drive truck though. i hate driving my car and i'm not good with directions or traveling to unknown places
the status on going back to school? same place as it was the last time.
i'm still not exactly sure what i want to do.
I didn't understand it at all.
I also didn't really apply myself to this course and since it took 2 years to find a job that had anything to do with what I learned there, I pretty much forgot everything.

Sounds to me that the only thing keeping you down is yourself and your ****** attitude.

Dude, it seems like you post one of these threads every couple of weeks or so. I thought you were going to go back to school and get a degree? What's the status on that?

i just posted asking whether i should ask for a raise based on my company's situation. it just turned into a hating my job and wanting something else thread.

the status on going back to school? same place as it was the last time.

So what's wrong with going back to school?

other than adding more debt, nothing really
i'm still not exactly sure what i want to do.

Well it sounds like any decent degree would give you a job you would like better than the one you are describing now.

My current salary puts me in a particularly awkward situation. I NEED a 6k raise this coming fall when my annual review is but I am not sure how the IT director is going to take it. I make so little right now that getting even 10% raises each year would put be back several years of what I need to be earning to live a decent life and being able to move out. I dug myself a pretty big hole accepting less than 30k for my current job.

less than 30k? part time i hope?

lol, man, are people here that out of touch with reality or what? yes, people do make less than 30k full time. not everyone make 100k+ a year like you all seem to think. i was making 28k full time at my previous job. i started this job at 30k and i'm currently at 33k

Laborers can make 45-60 no prob. if you are accepting less you are lazy imo.

to be fair it really depends on where you live.

where i live $30k a year is good pay and no they are not easy to get or find.

Wow, I thought 30K anywhere in the US was considered poverty.
As for the 80k/yr job driving truck, good for it if you like sit on your a** all day. If I had that job, I'd probably drink myself to death.

Where do you live? You can pick any city in the midwest outside of Chicago and you'll be living just fine on $30k. No where NEAR poverty.

This is ATOT. If you aren't moved out of your house by 18 and making 80K+ a year by 21 you are a loser and deserve death.

If all they do is whine about it, and not do anything to help themselves, then yes.
