So I was at a bar last weekend drinking beer. I noticed that many people left $1 tip for every $7 beer they bought. I thought it was common knowledge that barmaids deserved at least $2 or even $3 tip for each beer. I always tip $3 for every $7 beer. I'm not rich or pretend to make tons of money, but I seriously thought a $1 tip was too low.

I'm curious about what do you tip when buying beer at a bar....

Depends on the situation but typically $1 per drink. I hate coins so I'll always tip $1 per drink plus any coins. Why would you tip 43% for pouring a beer?

I usually give a buck a drink ...
Most bars that I go to it's about $3 or $3.50 for Goose Island, or about $2 to $2.50 for macro beers.

$1. I don't really see why the price of the beer matters how much you tip. Not like pouring that $7 beer was any more work than a cheap $3 whatever-lite.

I wouldn't tip unless they did something above and beyond their job expectations that would warrant them earning a tip.

$7 beer is ridicuous. Throwing away $3 on top to make it a $10 beer is absolute insanity.

Run a tab, tip 30% +/- depending on actual service.

eh, I've paid $7 usually for some limited supply high abv beer or if I'm at a baseball game :D.

$1 per beer if I'm at a place I don't know. If it's a place I frequent than I probably eat there and know the bartenders so it's 20-25%.

Depends on how good of a job the barmaid did. If I have trouble getting an order in, I won't tip much. If she comes over a lot and takes care of us, I'll tip more.

Removing a cap from a bottle of beer requires a lot of strength and dexterity. You need decades of schooling and training to accomplish such daunting tasks. $1 is no way to tip a bartender who has gone through so much hell to grant your lips access to such sweet libation.

this reminds me... there is no bigger tip-killer than pouring a shitty pint, or worse a shitty pitcher.
