YATT: $7 beer. Do you tip $1, $2, or $3?

If I am getting table service I usually tip $2. I know that at the end of the night, %20 (or more) is going to the bartender, so I want to make sure the waitress gets her share. If I am at the bar, they get $1 a drink. The only time I'll tip more is if I order something that takes some mixing, usually a girly drink for the lady.

Every bar I attended, I just put some bills on the counter and the bartenders made change as they got me beer. At the end of the night I figured out what I spent and left an appropriate tip.

Yeah, it was a weird can, 16oz, iirc. Hell, I even drove 8 hrs to get there (DC trip). 7 to 1 in the 7th when we left.

A ball game is different. I paid for the ticket. The people who sell beer at ball games don't rely on tips for their income anyways. I never tip at a sporting event.

So I was at a bar last weekend drinking beer. I noticed that many people left $1 tip for every $7 beer they bought. I thought it was common knowledge that barmaids deserved at least $2 or even $3 tip for each beer. I always tip $3 for every $7 beer. I'm not rich or pretend to make tons of money, but I seriously thought a $1 tip was too low.

I'm curious about what do you tip when buying beer at a bar....

So you don't appreciate the person who served you at the ballpark? Is a ballgame not a unique experience and upscale enough considering they are able to charge you $x for a beer? Besides the price of the ticket more or less goes to the owner of the club, the players, or the association in royalties(mlb, nfl, etc). I don't see how you can ignore one place just because you paid a price of a ticket to watch a game unrelated to the person who served you who in fact probably make a lot less than a barmaid does because you DON'T tip them.

For those who said $7 Heinekens at Vegas night clubs, you must not have been to Vegas in a while. You'd be lucky to find one for $10 these days.

JLee: You cant get a shot of Patron for that much everywhere. Around here its probably $15.

As for the tip, $1 no matter if the beer is $4 or $40.
