Yeah, but if that were the case, the Yankees would win zero in the next 1720 years. I'll take that :)

bahahah, screw the yankees. With their budget upwards of ~200 million bucks they should be able to win every year. Red Sox kicked butt this year. :)

Takes more than luck to win 8 straight games against the best teams in the game. Sox dominated. Only lost 3 games in the postseason. They just happed to all be in a row.

1) Budget arguments are stupid, everyone is playing by the rules of major league baseball.
2) Good for Boston for winning, just like it was predicted, the ALCS was the real series anyway.
3) No one can deny that the yankees dominated the redsox (and everyone else) for a CENTURY. So RSN and Yankee haters can say what they want, but they all wish their franchise was like the yankees.

1) that's like saying there's nothing wrong with our legal system
2) Did you really predict that your Yankees would lose to the Red Sox? Maybe on paper they looked better, but the whole mystique thing about the rivalry meant that the Red Sox would never be expected to beat the Yankees... until they actually did it.
3) Sorry bud but the Red Sox won 5 world series titles before the Yankees even had their first one. You dominated for 80 years, not a whole century. Don't give yourself too much credit here.

NEW YORK?With a week to go before pitchers and catchers report for spring training, the New York Yankees shored up their pitching, hitting, and defense Monday by signing every player in professional baseball.

Man, I'm as big a yankee fan as you'll find but even I'd have to admit this is stupid. All that matters is who's the defending champ, history is just that - history.

Go yanks in 2005!

It's all good to me. If I would script it, I would have had the Yanks lose in 5 or 6 alternating losses. The way the Yanks blew it is beyond comprehension. Let the Sox fans have their fun. Now it's the Cubs turn, maybe.

Without making excuses, Mariano was probably still in a shock phase when he pitched first back from the funeral.

Things sink in after after a while and that and can be much of why he blew those games.

Look at the gap between first and second. It isn't like they are seperated by a few thousand.

Indeed:

Yankees payroll: $184 million
Red Sox payroll: $127 million

Meaning the Yankees payroll is close to 50% higher than the Sox.

Pedro will NOT be a Yankee.
Jesus I hope not. Give me Eckstein, that guy plays the way the 1996 Yankees played.
yes, the yanks need those type of hungry players who play rough and dirty. Cairo is one of these guys.
We need more O"Neill's, Knoblauch's and Scott Brosius's, we dont need more Arods or Sheffields.
Also, we need PITCHING!!!!
I agree completely. We don't need Beltran. We need pitching more than anything. We need to remember how to play little ball and not just sit back and wait for a HR. This years Yankees prided themselves on having the most comeback wins, that's NOT a good thing. It means your pitching sucks.
Same here. *nods in agreement* Yanks need pitching and "heart". Ironically, for the Sox, it was the addition of a gritty and hungry Cabrera, and to a lesser degree Mientkewicz and Dave Roberts, that really sparked the team. It might even have meant as much as getting Schilling in the offseason. Seeing them up close and personal the last two weeks, I have to begrudgingly give them my respect. Doesn't mean I don't still hate them, but the 2004 Sox are a hell of a team. They came back from a huge deficit against a very potent Yankee team and then barely exerted any effort in dismissing a 105 win Cardinals team. It's all good though, the Yankees will make you pay for it next year. ;) In the meantime, enjoy the well deserved win Boston fans. (UGH! Did I just say that? :| )

Just don't get used to it. :p Go 2005 Yanks!

The Red Sox just won.
Congratulate them and move on if you don't like them.

I don't like the Sox but they are the Champions for this year, plain and simple. Let them enjoy their win for one freaking day at least.

See you in 2090!

Difference of $57 million. To put that in perspective, 14 MLB teams had a 2004 payroll under $57 million.
