While the civilian market is suffering from an ammo shortage, with even some police departments are having problems getting ammo. The government owned Salt Lake City ammunition factory is laying off workers.

Gun people were like "OBAMA GONNA TAKE OUR GUNNZZZZ"

and then they created an artificial shortage

Haven't you heard? People camp out at gun shows so they can mad rush to the vendors as soon as the gate's open. Probably the only place to buy ammo atm.

It's those vendors camping Walmart to resell 20 rd boxes of .22LR for $39. Hell Gunbroker and Armslist have better prices than the fat beady eyed mother fuckers at the gun shows.

Just gotta be persistent. Set up email notifications at places that don't take advantage of people like Midway, Brownells, Cabelas, Aim Surplus, etc, and set your phone to the lowest sync interval and have all your accounts set up and checkout form fill data saved in advance.

I've picked up another 500 rds of M855 5.56 (.55/rd), 1000 rds of 7.62x39 (.28/rd), and even a few boxes of Federal 180 gr HST .40 (.56/rd) in the last month alone.

LGS $28 a box of 50 for premium Federal 180 gr HST JHP? Yes please.

Some a little pricier than normal pre Nov/Dec '12, but a far cry from $1/rd all the gougers and resellers STILL want.

Majority of shortage right now is predatory resellers, non dealer assholes with no life who camp the stores first thing in the morning every day and buy everything just to flip it on gunbroker or craigslist or something. If you observe these people, you NEED report them to the police/FBI and get them thrown in jail and a felony conviction for arms dealing without a license. These people are douchebags to other human beings in all aspects of daily life and need to have their lives ruined.

So, I've been to multiple stores over the past 2-3 months and there hasn't been a single box of rimfire or centerfire ammo to be found. Not even frickin' .22LR. Online I'm seeing boxes of crappy Federal (normally about $15-18) going for $45. Why the heck is going on? I can at least comprehend people stockpiling 7.63 or 5.56, but .22LR...really?

I can't go the range because there isn't any ammo and I won't pay more than $20 for a box of 500 22LR. Stop stockpiling people! They aren't taking our guns, especially not our .22s.

yeah its freaking ridiculous.
i havent seen any popiolaur ammo sizes at my local superwalmart in months.

in fact, the last time i saw 9mm ammo was when i bought 2 100rd boxes of 9mm hollowpoint for like $26 each late last year. (regular 9mm was like $19.99 for a 100rd box, wich was not in stock.)
literally checked once a week since then when i shop for groceries there and no 9mm. :(

Our local store have almost everything back in stock except .22LR. Doesn't bother me though, since I am good there with at least 60 bricks or so left. I would like some more mini mags though, only have 15 or so 100rd packs left.

What about for less common ammunition like 6.8spc, .408 cheytac, .338lm, 10mm auto?
Though I'm Canadian, my shooting calibers are still "commonly-ish" (kind of less popular anyways) available.

The only ammo I've had trouble finding is .22LR. Between late December and April, I've only been able to track down about 5000 rounds of it.

Every other common caliber has been pretty easy to track down given enough time/patience. I don't have an exact count, but I've purchased somewhere in the high 5-digits of ammunition between December and April (9mm, .45ACP, .40S&W, .308, .223/5.56, 7.62x39, 7.62x54r, 5.45x39, 12GA). And I'm just a regular guy buying everything at the retail level online or locally.

Obama should be NRA president once he's out of office, look at all the great shit he's done for guns.

1. membership is up
2. business is booming
3. ccw is just about in all 50 states
4. an amazing surge in creative new gun styles and calibers
5. fucking 3d printing guns
6. no assault ban

he did what no other gun enthusiast could do! wtf?

Went to Cabela's yesterday to see if they had any 30-06 Garand ammo and they had a shit ton of .223/5.56. I could not believe it. Two or three months ago I went in there a couple times and there was NO .223/5.56 ammo that I could find. They had a 5 box limit so I was at least able to pick some up, but I could not believe it. It was $10/box for PMC Bronze, $0.50/round which ain't great, but considering current prices it ain't bad.

http://cnsnews.com/blog/gregory-gwy...6b-rounds-ammo-were-buying-bulk-significantly

So DHS buying 1.6 Billion rounds of ammo isnt contributing to the shortage?

WTF is DHS needing 1.6 BILLLION rounds for? Thats 80 million boxes of ammo.

heres why...

http://nation.foxnews.com/dhs/2013/05/06/senator-dhs-trying-dry-ammo-supplies

DHS buying ammo to dry up domestic supplies, since they cant get their gun bans.
If they were taking immediate delivery of every one of those I would see a point, but this has been over inflated and shown to be such many times, that is over 10 years and for every department in the entire country...really you shoudl stop watching Fox news

It was there long enough to post while eating and fumbling around on my phone. Could have easily ordered and got one if I wasn't already sitting on this

That looks mighty uncomfortable to me, you might think of just putting that in your gun safe and using a chair;)

Personally I'm only low on 9mm so if you happen across any somewhere that isn't raping people keep me in mind:D

Yeah me too. When I got my Sub 2000 like 3-4 months ago, I just bought one box. LGS had dozens of boxes of Independence 115 gr FMJ Blazer brass for $12 or something. I didn't have any mags or any other 9mm at the time and didn't really care.

Now I have like 10 x 33 rd and 10 x 17 rd Glock 9mm mags 6 x 17 rd 92FS mags and a Keltec PF9 and no 9mm. I really need like 2-3 boxes of Federal HST 124 and 147 to put through the PF9 and to conceal carry it. 50 rd boxes of 40 180gr HST for $28, hoping I can catch some 9mm in the next couple days.

Full size USP 40 is getting heavy and is hardly concealed.

I won't settle for innacurate FMJ/green tip junk @ $1/rd for my .223 varmint rig. Heavy match grade for a good price or GTFO. I can wait.

This came yesterday

JpSPtqSvnqhxw0YFA5s8Tdpg1tzjhJ-8Zabg7mFBhZQ

$279.50+shipping (was around $40 iirc)

Nice...I still have an unopened case of the same stuff in .223, cost me less than that but that was last summer, should have gotten more than one:'(

Actually i'll wait until reloading stuff is available. I like precision target shooting and you can't do that with FMJ.
