YAGT: OMG I love guns

That happens to me too, sadly, with my 1911s.

I'm overly confident with the 1911 triggers, so I tend to end up jerking them instead of pulling smoothly. If I shoot them often, I regain my discipline after a while, but it's embarrassing to be low / left for the first 20-50 rounds. Conversely, I work a lot harder with DAO triggers, so I tend to shoot quite consistent with them.

The "surprise" break is finally starting to make sense to me now.

It usually goes in the reverse...practicing with a DAO or striker trigger makes you better with it, but worse with a good SA gun.

But it's the same issue...overthinking.

Causes me to shoot the same size groups whether I'm mag dumping or going for max marksmanship. When I shoot fast, I don't think and the bullets just end up in a vague group. When I shoot slow, I get clusters of bullets from different errors...a few at 6 o'clock...a few at 7-8...a few that just make you go 'how the FUCK did I fling that one so far out?'

I've wondered, with regard to, say, a competition pistol shooter...is there such a thing as pulling the trigger too slowly? Obviously there are speed-oriented guys that can be super accurate while firing quickly, but if you asked them to shoot for max accuracy, would they slow down their pull as much as the bulk of us likely do when trying for the same? I keep telling myself that I need to stick to a good, clean pull at a reasonable speed and quit manufacturing problems by trying to be Mr Slow And Smooth.

I decided I had already spent too much time removing the factory epoxy coating (and the etch underneath) to not just do this. It didn't do it for me with plastic grips...but now...

...fully polished. Fuck Yeah.

Sorry for crappy pic, just slid a grip and the slide on to see what it looked like. Still in-progress on stripping/polishing the whole frame.

Unloaded, missing the rear buis (which finally got in stock and shipped yesterday from Brownells), 8.2lbs.

That isn't really fair. I think you're including the scope in there.

A friend's 14.5 bcm enhanced lightweight fluted with 13" keymod rail, md, magpul front and rear mbus, and mod stock came in under 6lbs. Unloaded with an umbrella corp grip.

My noveske 14.5 skinny with a battlecomp, centurion mid-cutout rail, rear mbus, and magpul str felt like a pig afterwards.

I'm including everything you see, except that you can't see the Inforce WML on the left side the of handguard and the keymod mount it's attached too.

And I'm coming from a Noveske Afghan Recon, the 16" SS barrel. It's definitely a noticeable difference in these two uppers.

Nice! I've been looking at a vortex 2-10x ffp optic with larue spr mount which will kick the weight up to just under 8 lbs. Does the inforce light bump your support thumb while firing?

Just put another order for PSA (Palmetto State Armory) because of their free shipping weekend (until tomorrow).

I need to stop spending too much time on their website. Just tallied the orders so far and I spent almost $3.8K within the last few months and I haven't order any AR15 (upper/lower) yet.

So PSA fans, how much did you spend so far? This hobby is expensive but a lot of fun.

I just wanted to make sure people knew they couldn't directly compare your weight with the DD's 6.5 lbs.

Thats a nice all in one rifle.

My buddy did his and it's pretty much as smooth as my NiB BCG. I say go for it.

Just need to find a way to "degrease" the bcg. I saw this other guy that did this same method (on his shield 9mm) but he used dawn dish soap and water. But then he said he takes his gun out to his garage shop and uses his air gun to blow every bit of water out of every single piece.

Follow up the water with 90% IPA. That's an easy way to get rid of water.

Got to shoot the SBH this afternoon. Wowowowowow. .44 Mag is an impressive cartridge.

Shooting just factory ammo? Wait till you reload for it. Can get some dang impressive hot loads for it. my plinking round is 17.6gr of AA#9 which has some kick but nothing ot bad. its been about equal to most generic 44mag factory that i shot. But then i upped it to 19.0gr of AA#9 and holy crap that is wild. Can tell the true power of the round. I made up a couple at 19.3gr AA#9 which is about as high as i want to go (start seeing pressure signs above that) and it definitely make syou feel like you could kill a bear 🙂 But its not that fun to shoot either. 6 rounds and anyone shooting it is done and goes back to the 17.6gr load.

You can buy a can of the compressed air which would work (just make sure to hold it upright only). or you could use hot water (like as hot as you can get it) and shake off as much as you can. Air drying it should have the water dry itself off. You could also put it in the oven at the lowest temp (under 200 hopefully...if not leave the door open) for 5-10 minutes and thatll dry it out.

Nope, it's offset by 45 degrees with the Haley thorntail mount.

Edit: I'm also looking at a Vortex PST 2.5-10x FFP for the previous upper to make it into more of an SPR.

How do you guys carry your spare mags while CCW?

Or don't you carry extra mags?

Sig 226 - Dont carry an extra 90% of the time. 15+1 better be enough and if its not my better choice is to run. When i do carry extra i got a CZ 2 mag holder that goes my my belt (like cops use). Its for CZ but fits Sig mags perfectly. So ill carry two extra in that. Its not very concealed though except in winter with a jacket on. (since its OWB)

My Xds (5+1 or 7+1 depend son mag) i just toss an extra mag in my from pocket. Again if i need to use it i should be GTFO instead of worrying about reloading BUT its for if cornered or something.

I don't bother. If I need more than a few shots, I'm probably screwed anyway. If I feel the need to have more than one magazine on me, I'd probably want to have a long gun instead anyway.

I haven't only because of no space on my person. Pockets full with phone, edc tools/first aid, flashlight, pen, folding knife. I have a skinth toolet on order to try to bring some organization to my edc so that I can make room for a spare xds mag... Should be here any day now, ships from Canada.

So I finally got my upper in today. I was able to mount the vortex sight onto it with no problems. I didn't bother putting in the BCG / charging handle yet because I plan on frog lubing up the BCG this weekend. But here's a stupid question. I'm ultra paranoid about my weapons since I have 3 small children in my house. My gun cabinet hasn't been shipped out yet. Would it be enough for me to put the BCG in my gun safe?

BTW it was a blemished upper from PSA and I don't see any marks at all on it so I'm happy about that. Of course, once I finish lubing up the BCG and putting it all fully together, I'll post some pictures. But oh mama, I did mount the upper onto the lower just to check it out and it was purdy as all heck 🙂

If the BCG isn't in the gun then why put anything in a safe at all? It is no more dangerous than a piece of wood at this point

Its the paranoia in me 😀 I sometimes imagine my 19 month old son is like Stewie and he'll sneak into my closet and assemble it while I sleep lol
