Yeah... to me it's just a policy that reeks of laziness and/or ignorance. If they ban +P then do they ban .357 or .44 Magnum? What about .40? .357 Sig? 10mm? All of those will be as powerful or more powerful than your basic .38 or 9mm +P.

And if they legitimately believe that their backstop or any other part of the range can't handle "+P", I'd say the range isn't safe to use.

Maybe I'm crazy, but so far I've only encountered ranges that had sensible rules like "no rifles larger than .223."

44 mag is a no, all the rest are ok.

I'm sure it's a combination of stupid people and stupid insurance requirements. Same reason I have to take a test every time I go to shoot.

I've started missing one question on purpose just to see if they actually look at the test. They do not.

That's silly though; they're assuming everything is SAAMI? I can load 357 to penetrate better than 44 if I want to. My 41mag has some hand loads that make my 44 feel weak. I use those loads when carrying in bear country...

I honestly agree with Merad: if your range cannot handle some of these loads, redo the range. A range near me (West Coast Armory) banned me from my membership (and refunded, thankfully) because I shot a M1A there with mil-spec 7.62 ammo (surplus rounds from Lake City.) They claimed it was too loud. Investigation late said that in fact their steel traps couldn't handle 7.62 and they actually had a round go out the back of the range. IMO, they should have been shut down for that right away.

Wades USED to be built to handle .50BMG with the berm. Now they have steel traps that can do at most 7.62 (so they say.) They banned 30-06, DESPITE my showing them that my loads were WWII accurate. (I had a hell of a pissing match with the rangemaster. Claimed hot 30-06 loads don't harm a garand - which they do - they warp the operating rod over time. WWII loads are WAY less powerful than the hottest 7.62 rounds I could find.)

---------------------

On a different topic, does anyone have experience with repairing stocks? I have a Yugo Mauser (it's a 98/48, so it's a reworked German Mauser of unknown origin) where the stock has a crack forming behind the magazine going back. It happened because the recoil lug slowly was beaten backwards, and the wood in front of the trigger ended up bearing load when it wasn't meant to.

I'm tempted to just inlet the stock to remove the improper contact point at the magazine, and glue the crack. Is this a sound repair? Should I place bedding material around the recoil lug?

No reloads. No range around here allows them.

Sure, but I can find a 41 Rem Mag commercial round that's 230-240gr and goes 1450ft/s out the barrel without looking too far. It's harder, but possible.

My point here is that if you cannot handle all handgun calibers (and let's count the AR pistols as rifles - same for AK pistols and such) then your range is poorly designed and should be shut down until it can handle all handgun rounds.

I've shot a ton of +P down there and it's fine. Again... I'm sure it's due to idiots and insurance companies.

My local range has an indoor pistol range and an outdoor pistol range. They don't allow magnum rounds on the indoor range, and reloads have to be TMJ or fully plated (no lead).

 their house, their rules.

Here you go, fellows. Drop a hint with your wife/GF/SO, as to what you want for Valentine's day! 😉

And that might be.

My point is simply, if their rules are noise based (which I can see, given .44 has a thud that is more pronounced than some rifle rounds like .223) then fine. If their rules are based on their backstop and walls not being sufficient, shame on them.

I never thought of the noise.

Could that be a reason? I'm going to ask next time I'm down there. I never really cared since I prefer to shoot the cheap stuff anyways.

Any good BULK ammo sales going on? I'm picking up a new safe and I figure if I fill it with ammo, I'll be less likely to fill it with shiny new guns.

The range i frequent for the pistol has signs that say along the lines of "nothing more powerful than 357mag". But it is more just for show than anything. I guess they had an issue years ago where some new shooter brought a 44mag with hot loads. Well from there i guess the guy went wild and lost control almost shooting the guy next to him. Least thats what the RO said the story was.

So they put the "restriction" in and all you have to do ot get around it is ask the RO and then he watches you to make sure you actually know what you are doing. Silly but i can sort of understand

So giddy with excitement, my stripped lower should be at the store by tomorrow. I ended up getting the following:

stripped lower

lower build kit + bcg + charging handle

AR wrench

pin installation tool

I think at this point, all that I need to get is the upper (which I can't decide on because there are too many choices!). My budget for the upper will probably be about $350

Now I just have to wait for Palmetto to actually ship out my build kit sometime this century 🙂

I feel you.

I am just about to pick up my upper from PSA that I ordered on the 14th.

All I need is a rear sight or optic, and an armorers tool...

what kind of moron posts asking for ammo deals but doesn't say what caliber?

Sorry. 9mm
LOL...sadly I haven't seen any "good" bulk ammo deals for a while, best I can find are about $240/1k for reman stuff and about $300/1k for new Aquila/Armscor

I've just been stocking up 3 boxes at a time of WWB from WallyWorld for $26/100 when my local stores have stock, which is a couple times a week lately

D:

mosin nagants are going for $200??? (cabela's)

I bought a premium, matching mosin for $99 back in 2005

eh...when I put it that way it's maybe not such a shock...

guys...I'm stuck.

I like the way the P229 feels in my hand but the local place doesn't have a P229 Elite or Extreme. Only the regular.

They have both an Extreme and Elite Dark P226. I already have holsters for the P226 and it doesn't fit badly in my hand, the P229 just fits better.

I can order a P229 Extreme from Bud's for right about the same price as I get it in town when you figure tax vs FFL fee.

I really don't want to order off the net but I also don't want to sit and stew on this for 2 more weeks.
