You're both ignorant, and I'm too mature to engage is a pissing contest.
I'm not going to get in a pissing contest with anyone in this thread.

I OC around my hometown and have been doing it for a couple years. It's a very small town and no one cares. Hell, most people dont even notice. People here know me and the law knows me. Its all good.

If I leave town and depending where I am going, I'll have a shirt over it or carry IWB.

I am of the mindset of letting people carry how the choose to.

Springfield 1911 A1 Milspec PB9108LP $600-700 is as good as it gets for a cheap but good no frills non riced out 1911.

STI Spartan is even a better choice IMHO in that price range. The fiber front sight may be considered riced a bit but a very very solid package overall.

I miss small town. I lived in Bozeman, Mt which isn't super small but still different. Just so much different than living where I do now and even way different than in a big town like Seattle. I went to college in Bozeman and biggest shocker was at a tailgating I wasn't drinking and a cop came up and asked why I wasn't...told him I wasn't 21 and he just laughed picked up a beer and handed it to me and said don't be stupid and we don't care. Loved it there and is move there in a heartbeat if I could find a decent job. Just so Mich more down to earth and less fucking stupid like Seattle and king county is. Same applied to guns. The college campus for guns all you did was check them in and out of the front desk of the dorm. Used to see guys bringing shotguns rifles handguns in all the time and 99% of the time the only conversation was about how the hunting was

Never been a fan of the Springfield Mil-Spec. Absolutely cannot stand the blade sights. For an entry 1911 I'd rather go with the Para-Ordnance GI. The finish requires a bit more cleaning diligence, but not a bad one overall provided the buyer isn't a 1911 purist.

Ugh, CT is talking about an "assault weapon" ban again. It sounds like they're going after everything with a > 10 round capacity.

If it passes, I can live with it, but I hope they don't pull any BS about confiscating weapons. I'll give up my 30 round AR magazines, but please let me keep my AR. 🙁

Thanks. That group was with factory ammo. Do you think I could tighten it up with carefully made hand loads? Regarding your purchases, did you "panic" buy?

what factory ammo? if thats cheap ammo, then pretty sure you could get some better performance out of it by reloading or even buying better quality commercial ammo.

if a fiber optic is a bit riced out i hate to see what you think is more riced out.

fiber optic sights are pretty common upgrades, especially for people with degrading eyesight.

It was some good stuff. Hornady Superformance BTHP 75gr match. Right now they are $1.70/round! Normal cheap ammo is currently $1/round, so its bad right now. Honestly, that level of performance is enough to make me happy. Just a shame ammo is so pricey right now.

Random question, how would I know if the 7.62x39 rounds I've been using are corrosive or not? I bought a spam can of 700 rounds in 20 round brown paper bundles and have shot my way through a good 400 of them so far. Just today I realized that I never confirmed if they were corrosive or not and it's been months since I start shooting the rifle. At this point, what can I do to determine if they were corrosive or not?

I give the rifle a basic wipe down (including the piston) after every time at the range (4 times so far) and run the bore snake through it a couple of times but thats about it. By this point would I be seeing the affects of the corrosive primer if it was, in fact, corrosive?

I don't have any other details about the ammo itself. It had writing in Russian on the front but I did not really pay attention, I just opened it and tossed the can. If it helps I did notice that there is some writing around the rim on the opposite side from the 7.62x39 marking. I don't know what the three characters mean but they are the exact same as on my new production Brown Bear 7.62x39 hollow points that are non corrosive. Could that mean anything?

Thanks!

I think the initial thing Malloy wanted was that plus everybody had to turn their ARs by Oct. 3, otherwise you were a felon. It's totally crazy, bordering on communism if you ask me. Not sure where everything stands right now but I bet we aren't too far away from being the next CA, CO or NY with all the limits on mag sizes and what not.

How ironic will it be when all these mag cap. laws go through and then some criminal ignores them and uses banned firearms to commit crimes?

as ironic as people committing murder now when murder is against the law since...forever?

If you arent seeing any rusting or anything i would say you are fine. Brown bear does have spam cans that arent corrosive so you might have picked up one of those.

But just keep doing what you are doing if you are worried about it being corrosive and just go have fun and shoot off those remaining 400 rounds 🙂

I don't, I really don't know what a riced out 1911 would be other than that gold plated crap. I'm not a fan of fiber sights outside of competition guns. They are just to unreliable for a defensive weapon.

If they're Russian surplus stuff (sounds like they are) then they're most likely corrosive. IIRC, the primers leave residue with some kinds of salts which attract moisture and cause the corrosion. So depending on your climate and humidity where the rifle is stored there may be little or no damage so far.

Actually if the cleaner you use has some water in it you might have been removing most of it. Most people that I know just flush the barrel with hot water after shooting corrosive stuff then clean normally.

Hmm...guess I figured that would be common sense to know I wasn't referring to custom guns, but it sounds like you may need everything spelled out for you so I'll keep that in mind

Assuming you actually mean that...you're comparing them to the likes of S&W, Kimber and so forth. Still not a valid comparison. For the record, I'd sent your original post to a friend (with no explanation) for laughs and their response was the same as mine. You fail at the english language. You say "one of the best" with adding in "one of the best budget..." and...well, you're suddenly comparing the wrong things.

I'd love to have a Wilson Combat 1911. Definitely on my short list.

Same, though their website needs some REAL help...

Rampant, have you checked out SVI 1911's? I've heard they were even better than Wilson Combat 1911's but have never seen one in person. Any opinions on them?

And if you think Wilson's website is bad, check out Ed Brown's and Les Baer's. Horrible! At least Wilson has a somewhat competent web designer.

Interestingly, for stuff like this and holsters, I have found that the crappy website companies have among the best quality products 😀

I have an SVI. This is my range toy. Chambered in .40. The mags will hold 20, it has a Scheumann barrel, Bomar adjustable rear sight with fiber front site. Trigger pull is about 2.5lbs. Lightened slide with Accurails and zero play in the slide. I just did some tuning on the springs, 17lb main spring with a 9lb Sprinco recoil spring. It's all matched to my hand loads.

I have a few thousand rounds through it without failure. This gun fits my hand perfectly, has a very nice, crisp trigger... I love this gun. It's a bit light for a 1911 style gun, but I like it that way. I use it for competition games and it points very quickly and very smooth with rapid fire.

I have fired Brown's and Baer's, but, mine fits me very well.

Here is my riced out pistol.
