YAGT: OMG I love guns

I still need to pick up a scope for my .308. What would be a good scope to pair with a 16.5" barrel .308 bolt action? I'm trying to keep costs as low as reasonably possible without getting complete junk.

I'll probably spend big bucks on a scope later if I get a Remington 700 in .300 Win Mag. :awe:

Well, the Nikon Monarch I got is pretty nice and i got it for $430. It normally sells for a little over $500. The next step up I think would be a Sightron for almost double the price.

Got another reason to shop MidwayUSA. Besides their NRA round-up program (which several other retailers have also done), the owner of Midway just cut the NRA another $1 million check today.

I'm sure he can afford to with the bank he's been making in the last two months.

the win he has made without price gouging. keeping prices the same (or only raising them slightly) and selling in volume. I do love midway!

there's a shop about an hour from me that is having a sale this weekend. the ad shows
$12.99 box of blazer brass 9mm (3 per customer)
$16.99 box of blazer aluminum .45 ACP (3 per customer)
$49.99 3-pack of troy battle mags (2 per customer)

Wondering how they got so much to have a sale? or do they only have a small amoutn and you'll have to fight other customers to the death to get them?

It's a 3 day sale but I think these things will be gone within the 1st few hours. Wondering if it would worth to go. It's like an hour from me. My father wants to go for the ammo.

They have some other stuff on the sale as well, but doesn't interest me or not enough price drop to make it worthwhile (like $20 off certain pistols, etc).

I'll be surprised if it lasts 30 minutes at those prices unless the store is way way out in the boonies.

For what purpose?

I'm personally running a 3.5-10x40 scope from Leupold on my M1A; now your gun is likely more accurate than my M1A since it's a basic M1A with 22" barrel put into a Sage stock (the sage stock helps a lot, but it isn't a medium barrel, it isn't match grade) so maybe 16x is more your style, but the 3.5-10 is light and works well. I just regret not getting an illuminated sight.

Scored a 100 round value pack and a 40 round varmint pack of .223 at walmart for normal prices. $35 for 100 round pack. Thats more like it. Oh, BTW, I had a friend waiting 2 hours for the truck to unload and the ammo was gone in less than 10 minutes.

This.

I plan do do much future business with Midway. No price gouging, limiting max items per customer to be as fair as possible, etc. Owners seem like outstanding genuine people. They've earned my loyalty.

Brownells as well, no price gouging that I've seen.

Couple of others who shall remain nameless will not see a dime (CTD cough)

Theres been so many stores, both online and retail, that have been loyal to prices and kept them low. SO many in fact i cant see why people would support the companies those that did jack up their prices. Midway, brownells, Cabelas (though always overpriced), joebob, sgammo, freedom munitions, and others all stayed lower on prices and have mad eme life long costumer.

Some of the local stores (one especially near me) actions during all this have led me to never shop there again. After this settles down Ill still go elsewhere even if they are slightly cheaper. That and one of their employees has been defending his price gouging owner on another forum which just makes me hate it more.

I've bought ammo from Midway over the last few weeks, and my only issues with them is shipping rates.

It cost me 15 bucks to ship 200 rounds of .40, which weighs nearly 10 lbs, and it cost me 15 bucks to ship 40 round of 410, which weighs maybe 4 lbs. Their prices on ammo are still good, but shipping rates makes it about the same as getting it else where. Of course I can't camp out "elsewhere" all day hitting the refresh button, the price of convenience I suppose.

Yeah, I gotta say, CTD has left me with a bad taste. I don't buy anything from them anymore.

Yeah, I will never give CTD my business again. They cancelled an M14 magazine order I made before all this crap stating it was out of stock yet the next day they had them in stock for 2x the price.

Very shady people and I steer everyone away from them. MidwayUSA is good stuff. Cabela's is too when you get stuff on sale.

Get M1A mags from Midway or Brownells or anyone selling Checkmate/CMI mags for around $27 or less.

The ONLY mags you should get for a M1A. CMI actually contracts the factory Springfield and USGI mags that are double the price.

I'm guessing the CTD mags were some crappy Korean $10 mags so you're better off.

Part of my M1A stash loaded with 2012 production NATO stamped M80 ball 147 gr.

Most of my 308 is wolf/tula because my PTR91 loves steel cases. They don't expand as much and it makes extraction easier on the fluted chamber blowby design of the HK91 system.

Mostly range practice, possibly hunting (eventually).

I'm expecting most shots to be within 200 yards, but I'd like to be able to reach out just a bit further if needed. I'd be happy with 300-400 yards absolute max, but again, the focus is on 200 or less.

Count me in the hate CTD club too. Some prices they had were so outrageous that they looked like an error, except CTD really are that big of jerks...i think it was a 100 round AK drum mag for the low price of $699.99.

Must be the dirt in a diamond mine they refer to...

Had they been the cheap mags I wouldn't really care. They weren't however which is what really pisses me off. I picked up some CMIs from Midway recently. I just need to order my wife some too. 😛

To hit decently up to 400 yards I'd recommend no less than 6x maximum magnification, but preferably a bit more. On the other hand, it's always nice for minimum magnification to be as close to 1x as possible for fast close range shots, but that doesn't sound critical for you. So something between 2-7x and RampantAndroid's 3.5-10x sounds like a good magnification range. I also agree with RA in that if you put decent amount of money into the scope, get one with illuminated reticle. It makes all the difference trying to make a shot in reduced light conditions.

Couple dozen more Bulgarian circle 10 waffle mags is all I have left to find.

And fat 50 SAW cans to organize.

Strangely the Arsenal milled AK with Hogue grip is my favorite new gun right now. Never thought I'd be this infatuated with an AK.
