I don't tell them what I make...
It's obvious that I'm well off with $5k living room furniture, 42" plasma, new computer, new car, nice diningroom and bedroom set.

It's actually quite hard to hide what I make...
The average income here is $30k per person (not household), I'm at $62k and likely will be at high 60's in Feb.

I like to pat myself on the back sometimes and this results in an obvious sign of wealth in a poorer community.

lol.. double the income of someone you're dating != bling in their eyes

sheesh... worried about $62k

unless you;re in Ethiopia, get off the internet and step into reality

For advice I'm tempted to tell you to rush home each day from work in your shiny new Cavalier, lock your front door behind you, and hug your 42 incher in a fetal position while repeatedly making a mental inventory of all your tres cool posessions until blessed sleep overtakes you . . . but I'm quite above such an obvious cheap shot. ;)
Thanks for the bolded :)

So should I try to hide my financial situation or not, if there is indeed a significant difference? :p
In general, fear and deception are not the building blocks of quality relationships. Just be yourself, a person as smart as yourself should easily be able to sort out the gold diggers.

Also, just don't let money (your spending of it on dates) set the early tone when you meet someone you like.

I think you're simply worrying more than you need to. Keep your eyes open, and trust your instincts, dawg. ;)

But keep your heart open, too, or you will surely shortchange yourself in this most important of human arenas.

edit: whoops forgot to put this:

The cost of living in New York, New York is 262.3% higher than that of Honolulu, Hawaii. A salary of $36,000 in Honolulu, Hawaii has the same buying power that a salary of $130,421 has in New York, New York.

Yea, I think that site is screwed up. moving.com right?

I put in $50K Boston and it bloomed into $180K for NYC.

it may be true. and it depends on where they put the boundaries on "NYC". if its limited to manhattan, i would not be surprised.

i think 'buying power' factors in housing, which is crazy in new york county, NY (manhattan), but better in queens, brooklyn, bronx, si, etc.

homefair.com... something is definately wrong... if the ops job is worth 80k in texas then it would be worth about 400k in ny. lol.

ok, here is what you do

1. do you have an AMEX? leave it at home that also applies to anything that says Gold, Platinum, Titanium or the like.
1b. Always use the plastic and don't carry more then $70 on you in small bills. Anything higher than a $20 implies you have a few bucks or are willing to spend it.

2. Dates, wear Jeans from the Gap and a T shirt always or a cheap button shirt at most. and for dinner always go to a diner or very casual restaurant. Remember, expensive meals are for people you care about or want to get into bed.

2b. For dates, don't do anything that requires a bunch of money. Remember what you did for fun in High School and College when you had to work a minimum wage job for pocket money? Do those things on dates.

3. Don't talk about money

4. Car, what kind of car do you drive? Can you get a decent but used car/truck? Ues that for dates and its good to have a beater anyway.

5. Don't take her back to your place. Always do stuff at her place. If she has to come over to you place then have a sitting area with lots of stuff from IKEA. Put a cover or wrap around expensive couches and chairs to make them look cheap.

6. Wear a beater watch or no watch at all. and any jewlrey you may want to keep at home.

7. Shoes, wear sneakers.

That should hide your 'wealth'

A new car and a plasma do not a wealthy person make.

Just be yourself. Hone your decision making skills so you're not easily fooled by women.

ROFLMAO!

Dude what are you smoking?! You make about $3000 after taxes. It's not like you can buy the town or something. You obviously have bills. If anyone asks you how you bought all that stuff then simply tell them you have good credit and pay your bills on time.

I mean if you were making $500,000 in that city then you might have something to hide but $60K?

LOL

Start dating men. They won't be there for your money. Since you are already gay, I can't see this fail.

I'm not trying to come off as better than others in my community, but I want to hide my income when it comes to women. I really don't like the idea of women putting on a fake personality because they think I will buy them things they want. I find this very difficult as I do spend some of my income and I usually invest in fairly nice things.

Is it such a bad thing for women I date to know I make more than double the average income in the city? Should I go out of my way to hide this? Should I keep my guard up for women who are out to take advantage of me? Do you think money matters in this situation?

match.com worked for me.

And if you wasted your money on a fancy car ... forget about hiding your money.

And for the love of god, don't lower your standards

Oh ....

... you sound like me when I was younger, except I didn't waste my money on many hings. I did buy a nice mountain bike, but I still drove a truck. I didn't buy nice clothes, etc.....

$5K for furniture? That's just stupid .... especailly looking at what you make.

Seriously, what city do you live in? Must be one hell of a place if $60k is considered "balling".

You should seriously get some mink coats for your dates, put some 24" spinners on your honda civic, and get a tatoo on your back that says "I got the cheese".

Aren't you the same guy that got a rush off following some guy into the beer store and tried to get him fired? You just come off as a pretentious prick. You think you're all that at work, when you're really just their puppet. You're just as easy to replace as everyone else in the company. I see your posts about all the girls you met online...ever try meeting someone without the internet?

And 60k isn't all that much...even if the average income is 30k. Most girls won't even think too much about your money unless you live in some kind of mansion rockin a 100k car. I have everything you listed...plus some, and have never had an issue with girls. I've dated girls that made minimum wage and girls that made much more than I did. Money was never an issue.

FTW!!!!!

Because even with the average at $30k, most of the women i meet are waitresses or healthcare workers who make less than that

These women are living paycheck to paycheck and my income is fairly apparent.

You don't see this as a bad thing

No, your attitude is the bad thing.

Well, if a lot of the people in your town are in the trades, they prolly make more than you do, so I don't think you have anything to worry about. It's pretty easy to pull down $35 an hour if you're any good.

Ok. New advice. Flaunt your money. Flaunt it in a serious way. Show the ladies that you make twice as much as them. Get a maid. Get a haircut everyday. Have a guy follow you around just to shine your shoes whenever you stop walking.

Money is your main game so if I were you I'd even take it a step further and move someplace even poorer to make yourself look even better. Start picking up women in soup kitchens and homeless shelters. You gotta play every angle you got.

Here's to hoping you get a nice old fashioned hick-dealt asskicking.
