Might be time to pivot to being a mini/BMW mechanic - this guys billable rate is way better than mine and clearly he's not short on work.

So did it just die or what? I haven't been stranded in 5 years/80k -- its just been routine maintenance that cost a lot for me. Every time you go in you need brakes, bushings, engine mounts etc.

I was going a smooth 75mph and then out of nowhere lost power, EML + SES. Luckily I had enough momentum to pull over to the shoulder. I could rev up the engine but it wouldn't go more than 5mph.

Various faults in throttle body, being replaced now; I was half expecting to be replacing the engine already. On the plus side, better I find this out now vs while on the Angeles Crest...

Don't forget this. I actually had a shitfaced grin the whole time I was waiting for the tow as this car is turning out to be everything it was promised to be.

Your next car should be an Alfa.

I managed to make it 40 miles before one or both SES and EML lights returned. LOL.

This is....unfortunate

This might explain how you got it so cheaply 😀

I did have that thought yesterday - "Oh, this is why they depreciate so much". At least the first 90 miles were awesome LOL.

Honestly though, I needed this. I was going to want an r53 until I died, so it had to happen eventually.

I'd ask where you're taking it but I know nothing about Bimmer shops so it'd be kinda pointless 😛

I know it's hard to believe, but I'm taking it to (one of) the best Mini indie shop in Los Angeles.

I drove by it for 7+ years waiting for the day I would finally be able to bring my Mini there. Did not expect this.

Not hard to believe. A good shop is worth it's weight in gold (and traffic!). The only shop I feel comfortable taking our Subies to is in Monrovia.

This is why I can't make a Miata work.(300+ pounds of dog food)

A Miata could fit one or two of those at a time, requiring multiple trips to carry the same load. On the other hand, you could actually make multiple trips with a Miata without it breaking down. 😀

i think if you got creative you could make it work with a miata 😀 😀

a couple of bags in the trunk, a bunch of bags in the front seat, and a couple of bags strapped down just behind the headrests! 😀

I wish i got a pic of the miata i saw pulling a flatdeck with 2 dirtbikes and a quad on it. I spit my water all over my windshield when i saw that.

i've seen miatas tow track tires to autocross events on a mini trailer. granted, that's not the same as two dirtbikes and a quad!
