also remember the tc is a first year model, which deters me personally.

Why would you even consider the Scion? Its not even in the same league as the Acura. Both are quality, but one is horrendously underpowered.

EDIT: Nevermind, I see now that you don't want the Type-S. So either car you get will be underpowered, but I guess underpowered for me about adequate for most people.

Oh, and don't forget that you can add a factory TRD supercharger to the tC and finance it along with the purchase price of the car + it's covered by the same warranty :p

tC= Toyota = reliability. Its brand marketing. + it comes with warranty?

the MSRP difference b/w the two is about $4000. I don't think its fair to compare them.

If you are planning to blow $17k, I would get a NEW tC instead of a used RSX.

How old are you btw?
you're asking for my age or the OP's ?

Keep in mind the Acura will have better resale value than the Scion, but you could probly find a nice deal on a new Scion.

Actualyl - it'll probably be very competitive size wise. Also, the Scions are having EXCELLENT residual value due to their demand.

Hey Scion Fan boy, shut it for a second.

I bought my RSX used last year, and I've had offers to buy it from me for the exact same price I bought it for, acuras DEFINATELY retain their value better than scions do.

And it still ends up being about the same price as a base RSX...

QFT. I bought my 99' Si 2 years ago and have put 20k+ miles on it, and can still sell it for close to what I paid for it. Honda > * in the resale value department, even Toyota.

I'd recommend the tC since I have one myself. But I would be called bias I guess.

That's only b/c it was an Si. Try to do that sh!t with a regular Civic EX or RSX and see what happens :D

you'll pay for it in gas costs with the supercharger. normally aspirated is the way to go unless you're tracking.

problem with that is its not out yet, and probably won't be till end of the year. but the turbo kits are starting to roll out. Stage 0 cost about $2500 and will net a 230whp upgrade i think

I see your point. But I also had a '93 Prelude Si, which isn't near as rare as the 99-00 Civic Si's, nor is it the top end since the VTEC model was. Except when I bought it in like 98 with 120k miles on it, I paid about $6k for it, cash. I sold it a couple years later for $7500. Of course I had painted the car, carbon fiber hood. And some other work, but still. I also got a killer deal when I bought it because it was worth more like $8k when I paid only $6, but still. The same is true for the Civic Si. I can only sell it for so much right now because I got a really good deal when I bought it.

But thats how you should buy cars, find good deals - sell them a couple years later and you don't lose any money. Besides the normal, oil, tires, etc. Plus you get a new car, because everyone gets bored. Which is why I'll never buy a new car, and simply feel sorry for all these people who buy new and are so happy with their purchase. Only to do the same thing 3-5 years down the road, after their new car is worth less then half what they paid for it.

WTF?!?! please provide information where a similar spec'ed car would beat eachother by .5 - 1 sec. every single benchmark (mind the geek in me) has them pretty comparable with the Tc actually pulling ahead due to the greater torque. only problem is Tc is easier to induce a spin...

tC is a couple hundred pounds heavier IIRC. It's a larger vehicle so it's to be expected

tenths maybe..but a whole second? ive read up on this alot because i plan on getting a Tc. The immediate competition (proved by this thread) is the rsx. more expensive than the tc..and every timings ive seen has never had that huge a differential

my bad, i guess i confused the type-s specs with the base rsx specs. you're right, the 0-60 times are pretty close: mid 7's. my gs-r still beats them both with flat 7's tho :)

still, the tc is about 200 lbs heavier than a base rsx (2800 vs. 3000) even if the tc does have more torque. picking one is really a matter of preference and you probably wouldn't go wrong with either. (psst, acura's warranty gives you an extra year and 14k miles plus 24 hr roadside assistance ;) )
