That's ballsy.

I could do without the useless hood scoops that make it look like nostrils though.
Eh, I just made sure to never dump on the throttle till I had it figured out ;)

no idea if 30k is bad price, but right now the domestics have like 100k dead stock in their lots they aren't accounting for, very bad since they should be almost gone so the 07's can take over. thats what i heard on the news atleast, they should be quite desperate to dump em off.

Nice car man! If I see some phreak around Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill driving like a bat outta hell in a new GTO I'll know who it is ;) Just beware of the guy driving like grandma in the silver Toyota Tacoma PreRunner.

My first car out of college was a 97 Grand Prix GT with every option exception being supercharged and the HUD. I loved that car and miss it mightily (although my insurance doesn't). It wasn't perfect but it was nice. Take good care of your GTO!

I love those Grand Prix's, I had a 95 and even though it wasn't nearly as nice as the 97+'s, I loved it too :) Cya round the Triangle

nice...

in a few years we will see you crap on the 'new' GTO too.

Reminds me more of a Grand Prix though.

Credit Union FTW

Yeah I started out wanting to only pay about $28K since they aren't selling well, but scouring the whole state and my Dad's dealer connections, no one was ready to sell below invoice yet. I could've waited, but then I might not have gotten the exact car I wanted. I chose to bite the bullet, pay a little more, and get the exact untouched car I wanted.

They are selling below invoice here in S. Florida...not $28k though.

Firebirds/f-bodies are not crap. But they aren't refined cars with nice interiors and modern features. The 2002 models aren't too bad, but are WAY too expensive for what you get. I'll take a heavier car with a much nicer quality/build, and its faster too ;) (stock anyway)

Yeah it looks like a Cavalier/Grand Prix blabla, its unique enough for me and I like it.

What do you drive?

mmkay thanks.

EDIT BTW, I think the new model muscle cars from GM will be sweet. My gf will probably be buying one of the new Camaro's at some point. Maybe I will trade in my Goat for a Firebird/GTO then, maybe not. We'll see. Regardless, your point is...pointless?

Nice, and congrats.

400hp, but not much top end for some reason. I've run against a couple of LS2 GTOs, and I can walk them pretty easily.

EDIT: I don't want any part of this flame fest... I actually like (and considered) the GTO.

I believe this is what he drives. It wasn't much of a challenge to find either. The last part of the front page is pretty amusing.

I drive a 1998 240SX SE now: http://DriftKAT.com/98SEmine.php

Sure your GTO would smoke my car as is right now...but once I get into the engine work...probably not at all. Also while I see GTO's several times passing each day, I have yet to see model car until I went to Arizona last week. I buy based on not seeing myself pass all day long.

I will have more than a new GTO in to it when finished though if you count it all up.

Prior was college in 1999 in a 1996 Saturn SC2 http://30moons.com/96SC2mine.php

Then I had a new 1997 VW VR6 GTI. http://30moons.com/cars97GTIVR6.php I was looking at the Firebirds when I bought this, WS6's...too long of a nose for me IMHO...I did buy my wife a Camaro RS though...she liked it and the V6 was punchy.

Then a 1992 Acura GSR...I was turning low 14's stock.

Then a beater RX7 while looking for the Acura.

Then a 1986 Honda DX hatchback which was my wife's to go to college with while I rode my Marin Bear Valley SE to school each day...

Then I had a 1988 Mustang GT with T-Tops...full FMS catalog and more. I was about 20 or so...it was 2 years old.

Then a 1966 Mustang GT fully restored as my first car: http://30moons.com/cars66GT.php We were looking to find a 1967 GTO at the time...I didn't like the sheer size of them...too big to handle.

It's funny you played such a violin for the Firebird then sign a car loan on a GTO and now proclaim it.

Most GTO owners don't like the new GTO...it's just a baby vette.

Why not share then:
Prices have slowly creeped up especially with the later S14 models. This is due to the fact that the public wants this car, to be part of the 'drifting' crowd or the sleeper race car groups (with horsepower levels approaching 500HP for diehard builders through high psi turbo charging) bringing a seemingly docile 4 cylinder sport coupe/fastback to the lights.

Movies such as "the Fast and the Furious", the latest trend of Japanese popularity especially movies, swords, and drifting, and the fact that with it's relatively low compression ratio (S13's with 8.6:1, even later S14's with 9.5:1) favoring forced induction and it's totally neutral handling, make for this to be one of the top tuner cars available now at below $30,000?possibly even at a higher price point. A good S13 model can be picked up for $3,000 with low mileage. While some creature comforts are absent, and the 'mouse' belts are present; the exterior is timeless?.the performance endless.

Its a popular car since there are not too many Japanese cars out there that are RWD. Before the drifting craze began there were hardly any mention of the 240sx.

But this thread isn't really about you or how your car *can* be if you were to upgrade it. Heck you could upgrade a donkey cart by putting in a souped up SR20DET engine in it.

Be careful...remember American Muscle Cars > Any Rice.

GTO is a nice car...but nothing fantastic. It's a pig with a V8. It's a luxury 'muscle' car.

It's competition is more Charger SRT than Corvette.

Your EVO is more car than the STi stock for stock...but the STi only losses to the GTO by a hair 0-60 and 1/4 mile yet spanks it on the slalom and braking. It also almost has equal interior space. When the EVO first came out the STi was better here in the states...I think it was the VIII model at the time. There are a ton of EVO's and STi guys here along with F-Body, Vette, and Mustangs....and of course the Hondas.

400 hp and it's performance is laughable when cars with 100hp less are turning equal times.

It's the old man's performance car here.

How did I play a violin for the Firebird? I've always liked them; I love the body style of 98+ T/A's for sure. I would've bought one but once I realized it wasn't exactly what I wanted in a daily driver, so why would I pay $10-20K for a car that I would definitely need to put lots of work into overall (not that I mind) and still not have what I want?

Instead, I went for a GTO (which I have also always wanted) and love it. Its not perfect, but its defects to me are small and inconsequential.

Were I buying in 2008-2009, I very well might have bought a new Camaro/Firebird/GTO. But I'm not, this is by far the best option to buy right now in almost every category and I am very happy.

So sorry this doesn't measure up on your "rice-meter," but I like it and you can go take the stick up your ass elsewhere.
