My dad's budget Dell box has been trouble free since 2002. Same with my inlaw's of the same year. Neither could be built for what Dell sold them for. That also goes for this rig, which was delivered today.

I get the impression you'd be struggling with any PC you got your hands on.

We have a ship full of them. They have issues but most of it is PEBKAC. I'm 99% certain of that.

If you stack coupons and discounts right you will not beat the price of a deal computer.
I absolutely hate their computers so I will never buy Dell except their monitors.

rule of thumb, if u need a nice laptop at a bargain, u buy it from dell; if u need a cheap basement pc not intended for upgrades, u buy it from dell; if u know what u're doing and neff around ATHD a lot, u assemble ur own.

How on earth did you manage that? The 2407 is like $700 alone...

Most people I know use their computers for MSOffice, email, and surfing the internet. A A Dell fulfills their computer needs perfectly.

You suck at computers, bought a retail computer to only perform upgrades on it? Unless you got a crazy deal that was less than what you would pay for barebones, would you do something like that...

Don't listen to your parents if they don't know what they are talking about.

I like how al the shitferbrains in this thread keep talkin' about how a cheaper PC can be built with patience, or coupons, but never back it up. Then there's the lamers saying they're only for web surfing. Somehow I don't see people like EKKC using theirs for simple web surfing or office apps!

Your first mistake was that you listened to your parents in regards to computers.

Your second mistake is that you didnt have a spine and bought a Dell.

Your third mistake was that you tried to use a Saphire ATI card. NEVER BUY SAPHIRE!!!

I dont know which mistake is worse, but at least that is the start of a list. Hopefully you will learn from this.

Yeah, my $275 Dimension 5150 is doing a great job as an HTPC, no web surfing/office work on it! :D

And *gasp* I upgraded it with an additional HD, TV Tuners and a new video card! I thought you couldn't do that with Dells???
