That a majority of those subscribers joined Sirius around the time that Stern made the jump from terrestrial radio to satellite is a mere coincidence then?

WTF does "around the time Stern made the jump" mean????

Sirius announced the acquisition of Stern in October of 2004. Stern didn't go on the air until January 2006.

That means there were 15 months between the announcement and Stern actually signing of OTA airwaves. In light of that, the claim that the majority of new subscribers during this time frame were Howard Stern junkies is patently absurd. Why would a Howard Stern junky sign up for Sirius satellite months ahead of time if Howard Stern was the only reason for them to subscribe in the first place??

They gained 2 million subscribers in 15 months-- which as I said earlier is the same growth that XM had a couple years ago.

I would think you would really only start to see the Howard Stern effect by looking at the number of new subs in first quarter of 2006, and the last month or two of 2005-- not the entire freaking 15 month period preceeding all of this.

I ordered Sirius just to get Stern...I know of or convinced at least 5 other people to do the same.

That may well be true... but 6 subscribers <<<< 2 million <<<<<<< 10 million.

i.e. you've proved nothing

You do know that Howard had programming on one of his channels (Howard 100) before he left terrestrial radio?

Trust me, before it's all said and done Stern will be responsible for at least 10 million subscribers.

Only an idiot would lie or exagerate to try to prove a point in vain.
For me to lie or exagerate I would have to know the exact numbers which I admit I didn't. So I was off a lot, that only makes Stern joining Sirius which resulted in more than 2 million people signing up more impressive.

So all 2 million subscribers joined up for Stern? By that math, didn't 3 million sign up to XM just for O&A?

At least XM plans to be profitable one day.

And I was right. Sirius lost $40M more than XM did, even with the biggest subscriber gain in their history.

And here's a breakdown of the 2 companies:

Graphic

In their biggest quarter ever, with the full Stern effect, Sirius lost $40M more and only outgained XM by 400k subscriptions... all the while spending 25% more per subscriber.

Just bought 250 shares of Sirius

For your sake I hope you're right in the short term, but Sirius has over 5x the amount of shares outstanding (1.33billion vs. 220mil), so they are in one perspective even MORE expensive than xmsr. ;) Either will be very lucky to succeed in the long run imo.

We are pleased to tell you that we have successfully secured FOX News as part of our lineup. On March 14th, you will see it on Channel 131 and additionally you will also find FOX News Talk on Channel 145."

I'm never going back to over the air radio. I've had XM since it started and with my travel schedule, there is no way I'll back to loosing channels from town to town...
