Again, much like the idea of most seafoods... why would anyone think a foot-long insect with claws would be edible? Why would some tribes eat tarantulas? It's all nasty and most likely began with necessity.

I hear some people also still eat insects of the sea.

you see fish = to insects?

I think he's referring to shrimps and lobsters.

Last time I checked shellfish don't smell like garbage, manure, sulfur, or ammonia.

So as long as it smells fine, it qualifies as food? Yeah sure.

Give me a response to what I asked about eating creepy crawlers in general then you can start splitting hairs about smell vs. looks. Actually, I'd like to see Citrix' response more.

My vanilla candle tastes like Chapstick 🙁

Yes, it has to have a decent aroma for me to eat it. Smell is an important part of taste.

Maybe if I spell it out for you, you'll actually answer the question... even if it looks like an insect but has a decent aroma, you'll eat it? If tarantulas were cooked with some groovy sauce, you'll eat it? If the answer is no, I don't know why you bothered with the smell response. If the answer is yes, you have no place claiming anything is nasty.

It actually doesn't smell bad contrary to what goes into making it. It does, however, look funny but it tastes great. Also, it makes orange juice bitter instead of sweet.

its gross but i can handle it. taste is a bit strong eating directly, but as a flavoring agent for congee or whatever it can be decent.
i found it amusing that it was on fear factor😛

too easy...way too easy..silly white people

Yeah but nobody rational ever ate a lobster raw or cooked and thought to themself "Hmm....you know what would make this thing REALLY good? Letting it sit out in the sun for three weeks until flies wouldn't even touch it, then feed it to a pig and remove it a half hour later while half digested from the pig's stomach and then freeze it and serve it ice cold over fermented bean curds."

The reality is Asians don't have taste buds.

You sure about that? You should try some rice porridge with pi dan. Some chinese buffet serve it. It tastes very good! Subtle and delicious~

that last statement is pretty broad.

I'm not even going to bring up casu marzu, lutefisk, or alot of the other weird stuff caucasians eat.

Every culture has its weird foods.

I smell a strong odor of sulfer and amonia coming from a building and generally assume it's not a place I'd go to eat.

I don't think it smells like sulfer at all. And it doesn't permeate the air like actual sulfur. If you smelled it up close and had to assign it a smell, then yes, sulfur might be a description. It smells nothing like that tho, in my opinion. Now that you've knocked it, you ought to give it a try 🙂 You have a week to respond! (After tasting it of course).

If its not seasoned right it has an awful aftertaste. But with a skillful blend of white pepper soysauce and scallions it's an awesome dish

I beg to differ. Don't knock it until you try it. I don't like it either but at least I had tried it before.

I think Asian/Chinese cuisines are the most diverse.
This Chinese menu is linked from another thread. Try to find a non-asian menu that has this many different dishes.
Different people like different food. That's why there are so many to choose from.
