I'm craving some of this right now with xi fan (rice porridge). You white folks enjoy this stuff? 🙂 So good, but my mom says it's full or preservatives and will probably kill me. I'm sad 🙁

Correction! It is actually called Pi Dan. A description fo Xian Ya Dan was posted by yuchai!

I love this with xi fan as well. Chinese here.

Hooray 🙂 Haven't had this stuff for a longass time. These eggs, bamboo shoots, those salty tofu-shaped cubes, and pickled cucumbers... a staple in any asian family 😛

From wikipedia:
From a distance, the odor of stinky tofu is said to resemble that of rotten garbage or manure, even by its enthusiasts.

So between this and the eggs...you basically like eating food that smells like shit.

throw a little Dorian fruit in there for dessert

It's disgusting to look at but I grew up on it and didn't know any better. Much like people who still eat seafood.

I still eat it once in a while as long as it's accompanied with something. It also has to have the right texture... too much gunk or too solid and it's just bad. In between... perfect. 😀

Again, much like the idea of most seafoods... why would anyone think a foot-long insect with claws would be edible? Why would some tribes eat tarantulas? It's all nasty and most likely began with necessity.

I hear some people also still eat insects of the sea.

I think he's referring to shrimps and lobsters.

Last time I checked shellfish don't smell like garbage, manure, sulfur, or ammonia.

So as long as it smells fine, it qualifies as food? Yeah sure.

Give me a response to what I asked about eating creepy crawlers in general then you can start splitting hairs about smell vs. looks. Actually, I'd like to see Citrix' response more.
