on ebay the cores and HDD go for cheaper seperately than they do if boughten as the 20gb.

is it possible to buy the HDD and attach it to the system?
as well. will wireless controllers work with an arcade/core system?

link me up?
also ebay. the falcon arcades are going for under 100...and the 20 gigs are about 35. so id say thats win right there,

You can. I bought an arcade yesterday and am under the impression that $30 or so should hook you up in some manner. The system comes with a wireless controller, btw and it does also have HDMI output.

1. Arcade/core does not come with component video cable. Not a problem if you get one with HDMI and you plan to use HDMI.
2. Technically the warranty only applies to the original owner of a console; I don't think Microsoft has been strict about this.
3. There's a chance you'll get a console that's banned from Live.

In my experience, brand new is always better than purchasing a used console from eBay. Unless you can be 100% about everything Mugs said, then don't risk it.

would u lean against maybe picking up the core system from gamestop and using that deal through microsoft forthe 20gb and 3months of XBL that would total probaly around 210 versus 230's if i bought the arcade new.

No way to check that if it's banned that I know of. I don't think saving $20 is worth getting a used system honestly. Think about how much you'll spend on games over the life of this thing, and the $20 is pretty negligible.

dude you will save like $20 or $30 getting a used console.

just pay the extra "premium" and get a brand new one.

360 is one of the few electronics that i would NOT buy used.

are u refering to getting an arcade and the $30 HDD bundle from microsoft.

or spending 300 to get the 60gb.

i personally dont need a ton of space. just need it to play XBL

so 230 sounds better than 300+. newegg has free shipping and no tax on items. woot

If you want to play on live, then you'll probably start downloading demos and extra maps depending on the games you play. Get the console new, get the 20gig hard drive. It's not worth buying a console THAT'S KNOWN TO FAIL used. You can't penny pinch when it comes to high priced electronics. You'll kick yourself later. If you can't afford a new console then you shouldn't be buying one.

Well then don't buy stupid games you don't really need. What you DO need is a new console with a fresh warranty and stuff that you KNOW hasn't been abused or banned.

Microsoft ships stuff pretty quick. I called them last Saturday about getting a part. They shipped it to me in less than a week.

I'm going to go ahead and agree. You're better off buying from a friend or buying a new unit. The old design motherboards have the heat design flaw. If you can get a falcon (65nm CPU/90nm GPU@175watts)...that's great. If you read up online, you might be able to find a new Jasper (both 65nm CPU&GPU@125watts)...they just started shipping. It's not about performance, it's about less heat.

The last year or so, they've really started making some good 360s with a much lower failure rate, but you still want to do what you can to protect your investment. Buying a unit with a Microsoft warranty is advised. $50 per wireless controller and $30 for the hard drive....you're not paying all that much extra for the warranty and knowing that it's NEW.

yup so i decided to go the New route 🙂 new arcade with a MS refurb 20gb

kinda cant beat 3months of xbl as well as the HDD
and i cant buy the headset later

FYI, there's a deal on the 20 GB refurb + refurb controller for $40 in Hot Deals. No 3 months of Live, but it's a comparable and arguably better deal. Too lazy to link.

heh i jumped on that 🙂 thnx though

The best advice I can give on buying used consoles, especially used 360s and PS2s, is to not do it at all.

The only exception to this rule is if a friend wants to sell one to you and you trust them and know they've taken good care of it.

I tend to horde games and systems rather than give them up, but the ONLY reason I've ever sold a system is because I had to replace it and I know I'm not alone on this.

i dunno ive had success with a 2 gamecube's,ps2, and an xbox

i did however had to return 2 larger ps2's to eventually just get a slim... but yeah. 4/6 is not bad 🙂

I had a first-month PS2 that died after two years of not-terribly-heavy use (controller port 1 went) and replaced it with an xbox two years after xbox was released (same time as PS2 give or take) and that POS' dvd drive started going hog wild with errors after only a year. Still not sure whether the $20 warranty is worth it on my new arcade, but if I ever buy a new release console in the future I will buy a warranty.
