Bleh, I'm getting tired of typing games. When you sit down and decide what console you want, figure out what games you plan to play. If your list looks like mine above, you probably chose a PS2. I don't care if the games came out during PSX or PS2, if they came out for the PSX and you havn't played them yet, then they are probably selling very cheap at funco. I am currently playing GTA3 and it alone has given me many hours of entertainment.

Skace, more than 3/4 of the games you mentioned are either not out yet or for PSX, not PS2... I don't really think anybody buying a console now is doing it to play old PSX games. Even if you do want to play them, you can just use your PC anyways.

I agree PS2 has the best library right now, but let's not get carried away. ;)

Well, of course... GTA3 is out for PS2 and will be out for PC. I'm sure it's a lot easier to port the game than trying to emulate PS2 on a PC.

One of the things for me is that I own some of those games already on Dreamcast. If you own a Dreamcast already, games like Grandia 2, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing, Tony Hawk 2, Guilty Gear X, the Street Fighter ones, and Dead Or Alive 2 are all available for DC. Granted some of the versions for PS2 are enhanced but most of the enhancements are minor. Just like I won't buy Star Wars StarFighter: Special Edition for X-Box, I won't buy Dead or Alive 2: Hardcore for PS2 when I already own DOA2 for Dreamcast.

I agree that PS2 has some great games, Grand Theft Auto 3, MGS2, and GTA3 being the big three right now, and I own all three of them. I feel like PS2's list of great games is too far and few between still though. For a console thats more than a year old now, the PS2 has more mediocre and "filler" games than anything else .. Maybe I was spoiled by Dreamcast but I think that Dreamcast had such a huge library of great games compared to PS2 still. Just my opinion though.

<< Your statement that the X-Box is an IBM Personal Computer is also not true. It simply is not true because the X-Box is not a Personal computer. It cannot run any applications other than games. >>

Wanna bet?

If I can make an XBox run a wordprocessor, does it become an IBM compatible Personal Computer?
>>

There is a Linux distribution pack for the PS2 circulating in Japan currently and headed to the US. It runs XWindows and I'm fairly certain it will then run any Linux wordprocessor you can throw at it.

So, there's another PC in a black box.

Using Potosalad great logic, Gamecube is a Mac!!!!

Power PC cpu, ATI graphics card, match made in heaven :)

<< Let me know where on pricewatch I can get a PS2 mobo. I can tell you where on pricewatch I can preorder an nForce mobo (which is what the XBox has).

This is the same with all XBox peripherals
>>

Really? I am very interested in NV-2A, please point me to the location where I can buy it :)

Well for most Xbox games its going to take 8-12 months to port(yes it is, maybe 6 months of development, but tweaking and bug squashing will take longer). It will take longer for emulation to come about is my point.

GaDzOoKs GuYs! Calm down! GeEz... i leave the thread alone for one night and it gets all crazy up in here. There's no doubt in my mind that the XBox will be emulated some time in the future... it happend to PSX (and probably sometime soon for P22?). Software is all just a bunch on 0's and 1's all you gotta do is understand how to make the hardware work with them.

Is the XBox a PC? If it wobbles like a duck, quacks like a duck and it'll swim like a duck, then it must be a duck.
Is the PS2 a PC? Why the hells not? If I could program an OS and a word processor for it (which should hella be possible because again, its just a bunch of 0's and 1's you gotta compile) then everyone and their dogs would be calling it a PC. The emotion engine is just another CPU, just one that you can't easily buy on the market.

AnyhOw... i'm still leaning towards XBox. Freaking sony is a rip off for not lowering their prices this year. Hells... in the very least they should've added a HD to the PS2 for not dropping the price. And MGS-X is an improved MGS-2?!?!? Hell yeah!

Here's another question to ponder.... since the XBox is "basically a PC"... and emulators can be made for the PC, anyone think that an emulator can be made for the XBox to emulate a PS2?????????????????????????? (Now that'd be great... if possible!)

Ucsdnerd,

I have no doubts that emulators will be made for the X-Box. Whether or not a PS2 emulator can be made for the X-Box remains to be seen. The amount of power that would be needed to emulate a PS2 is probably greater than the X-Box's power. If you go with the 10 times the power is needed, the 300 Mhz PS2 would need roughly a 3Ghz computer to emulate it properly in software. Additionally, I would imagine that the PS2 can probably do more per Mhz than an x86 chip, so you might need something even faster. (I would imagine PS1 games could be emulated on an X-Box seeing as how the Dreamcast was able to emulate the PS1 although it was game specific. You can guarentee that SNES and other emulators will be out for the X-Box once they figure out how to get the X-Box to boot CD-RWs or run apps off of the HD.

Don't buy either, this way you won't be disappointed and you could save at least $350. That's a lot of money saved! BTW you can always use the money saved later on to rent the system and games you want to play.

I finished FFX two month ago and damn it was unparalleled!

Halo looks like kids' stuff compared to it.

PS2 has many more games and besides, Microsoft's name is all over the XBox. I don't like that.

Well if you already owned a PSX like me. Buying a PS2 replaces it in your living room while allowing you to continue buying NEW PSX games (yes games are STILL coming out for PSX even now!) My PSX was on its last leg but I still had tons of games I wanted to play. You cannot deny the PSX library when talking about the PS2 it is simply too great of a plus. If Xbox played all PC games currently on the market, that would be a huge freaking plus also. If Gamecube played Nintendo, Super Nintendo, and N64 games it would be godly. Backwards compability is a NICE thing and you can stop shrugging it off and pretending you can play them all on your PC because you can't. Bleem is a POS that causes many glitches in games - sometimes losing entire menus, transparencies or backgrounds.

"I agree PS2 has the best library right now, but let's not get carried away."

I'm not getting carried away, when I list titles soon to be out for PS2, I mean SOON as in 1 or 2 months. When you and other Xbox fans list soon to come out games for Xbox, you mean half a year plus. Big difference. Buying an xbox now is like buying a toy that the batteries won't come out for until a year later. Its like buying the PS2 when it first came out, a waste of money.

If you want a console now, get a PS2.
If you want an Xbox, wait a freaking year.

Those are your choices. I don't have anything against either console but buying the Xbox now and pretending it can compete with the PS2 is a joke, unless you enjoy Halo for 6 months straight.

huh? my friends computer emulates nintendo/supernintedo games perfectly, its pretty kewl, and n64, atleast some work, i don't really touch that. as for bleem, it was not finished i guess. theres nothing magical about the psx that makes it un-emulatable.

Oops, I mean't you can't play PSX games with the PC. Well you can but their is a ton of bugs and they don't work very well (I tried bleem awhile back with my MS sidewinder gamepad). I know there is plenty of emulators for old consoles, I didn't mean to include them in that manner. I think the Gamecube would be cool if it could play every old game, but that would require a second input for cartridges and would never be possible. If it could, you would be sure I'd be listing every zelda, mario, and metroid game as a reason to buy the gamecube.

bwahaha :D

Like I said, I think the mayo turned green... ;)

And skace, I guess it depends on what you like... I don't spend hours a day playing console games, so I want to play new games when I do. I used to have a PSX, and sold it when I got a better computer because I didn't play with it anymore. I bought an Xbox because I thought it had very decent launch titles, and looked promising... They were the same price, I could've just bought a PS2, but since I know I won't be buying another console any time soon, I got the one that had the brightest future IMO.
