X800GTO Specs Inside

I wonder if they actually expect additional profit from this...

ATI are starting to look a little pathetic to me.

How many more times is ATI going to walk all over themselves!? This is getting ridiculous.

Release the next gen cards already.

it's not that, it's the fact that they are releasing what is essentially the same card over and over and over.

So we've got:

x800XTPE
x800XT
x800pro
x800XL 512 MB
x800XL
x800
x800GTO 256MB
x800GTO 128MB
x800GT
x800SE

Who needs the x300/500/600/700? Just make the low-end x800 cards, and high-end x800 cards... Nvidia should also make low end 7800\s, and they won't even need the 7600/7200 names...

I find it quite efficient companies are doing that, it helps consumers purchase in the money range your looking for. eg: if they didn't have all these series it's like a jump from the X800 to the X850, but with the inbetween series gamers can be like "oh I have more money for another blah blah Mhz, I'll get this". This isn't directed to ATI alltogether, I find it efficient that all companies should give it a shot.

To confuse people by using the same name letters as the competition

Well fine, but half of those cards offer a negligible FPS return...x800->x800gt->x800gto is, what, 5-10% max?

so is this to go under the X800GT? which has 8 pipes, 475mhz core, 256bit mem 256mb at 980mhz?

X800XT PE -> X800XT -> X800XL -> X800pro -> X800GT -> X800GTO?

5~10% is actually quite good if your on a strict budget.😉

GTO = Pontiac

Despite being rather fond of Pontiac's GTO- they actually swiped the name themselves from Ferrari who was shipping their GTO years prior to DeLorean and crew shoving the 389 into the LeMans.

Not to mention that ATI had a GT card way back before nVidia ever had a card around.

VGA WONDER GT. 🙂

So where is the problem? Ati is just dumping chips (at great prices) in preparation for next gen. If rumour is correct the lower range next gen is ready for release. Some of these editions are going to turn into great overclockers and may even be moddable, but if the nvidia types don't like them, well don't buy them or if it makes you happy flame them. Some of us more than one generation back may appreciate a budget card that rocks with todays games. :music:

I'd say they're following a fairly intelligent marketing strategy. Of course, ATi looks like a bunch of morons from our (the enthusiast's) point of view, and NVidia is certainly owning them in uber-high price bracket. So for right now, ATi is saying "fvck you" to the enthusiast and is going after as many low to mid range sales as they can possibly make. If someone's shopping for a 100-200 dollar card, who doesn't like having a half dozen options?

Easier, cleaner, far more defined. WhyTF can't we get something like that? I guess its because XT or Ultra or Pro look nice coming after the model number, makes you feel special that your card is Ultra Uber Professionally good. The one card that made sense with an extension was the GeForce 2 GTS, of which the GTS stood for "giga texel shader"
