2)At stock 1900XT is faster, I would even choose it over a 7900GTX, what to talk of 7900GT.
3)Overclocked, 1900XT should overall be better, even a 1900XT can be overclocked
4)GEforce 7900GT won't be able to play games like GRAW, Oblivion, UT07, Crysis etc with AA at decent resolutions and max settings.

A 7900GTX is faster than a X1900XT. You show me a benchmark which sees the XT being overall faster. No frackal, your not going to show be an old benchmark using high quality because the performance boost from current drivers were not present way back then notably F.E.A.R, GRAW etc. Not to mention it draws less power AND is more quieter/cooler.

A EVGA 7900GT KO similiar performance to X1900XT

At 1600x1200, we found that we could play GRAW with the medium texture setting enabled. Dynamic lighting was enabled and Effects, Post Effects and Dynamic Shadows were all set to high. These settings were the highest-available settings for the GeForce 7900 GT, and it played pretty smoothly - the frame rate didn't drop too low, and there were very few occasions where the frame rate was stuck below 30 frames per second for more than a second or two.

We didn't have the same problems with the Radeon X1900XT, as it has a 512MB frame buffer. Thus, we were able to turn on high quality textures. Dynamic lighting was also enabled and Effects were set to high. However, in order to achieve a smooth gaming experience, we had to lower Dynamic Shadows and Post Effects to low and medium respectively.

I mean look at the HL2 episode1 benchmark. The 7900GT uses HQ in the driver, 4x TSAA 16xAF at 16x12 plus HDR, compared to the X1900XT using 16x HQAF, 4xQA, at 16x12 plus HDR.

The 7900GTs in general are easy to OC even without a vmod.

If power is a problem, check this out.
7900GT stock consumes 48W. X1900XT consumes 108.7W Not to mention OCing the XT means, higher power conumsption plus hotter. The card itself is already hot.

When G80 hits, i bet its going to feel the $599~699 spot. The midrange G8x cards wont come til maybe around early 07. Well thats my predictions, and according to the Q2 conference call, NV mentions that more G7x variants are coming. Maybe you could hold out til the X1950pro hits or the rumoured 7950GT (512mb).

NOTE - if your not going to hold out, BOTH cards need a 3rd party coolni solution to get rid of the noise and heat (especially the X1900XT).

I suppose because when I got it at a local computer show it was really cheap and is a good overclocking board. (DFI Lanparty UT SLI-D)

I know what you mean. It seems like a lot of the better boards and deals happen to be SLI boards. I've had a Ultra D, which at heart is really a SLI board, and now a A8N-SLI Premium. I like the option that I can SLI if I ever want to, but I've never really intended to do it.

go ask anybody whether to get 7900GTX or 1900XT.

1900XT is faster, I right now have to go and don't have the time to tell you at the moment, long story.

Link? And what do you consider to be decent resolutions? You do know that the majority of gamers run on 1280x1024, right?

All hail akshayt and his FUD thrower...

Seriously, get a x1900xt anyway, best card on the market period (unless you bother with heat and power)

Yes, you are right. The majority of people will suggest the X1900XT for several reasons.

However, the 7900GTX is technically faster at stock speeds, and the X1900XT does perform similar in some games with the 7900GT.

I ordered a x1900xt and should have it around wednesday as I mentioned above. Heat and Noise aren't an issue for me personally...I have good enough airflow for the heat and when I game, my speakers will be cranked so I can't hear the PC.

You definetly wont be disappointed I leave my fan aroudn 50% all the time, keeps it in the low 40s idle and doesnt go over 70 load, and its overclocked 675/810 for normal playing.

I suggest people compare the GTX to the XTX rather than the XT, if that's what the thread has degenerated into, given most XTs can comfortably hit XTX speeds, if not more ;)

Anyway, simply for the HQ AF i'd take the XT, especially given one of the OPs points is that he wants IQ...

Just keep waiting. They are dropping in price almost weekly.

And with the X1950 coming out at the end of this month and a $399 price tag, I'm guessing the 1900XT will get to $300 (before any rebates) before then.

I would say the 1900XT > 7900GT

I have a BFG 7900GT O/C and tbh i was really disappointed with it.
You simply HAVE to volt mod it.
Only now that I have done that and overclocked the hell out of it, do i feel I've actually got value for money.

IMO...

i think you should hold off upgrading...unless you see the need to get a bit more fps in games. your 7800GT is good enough for now. seriously, just wait it out...you can sell your 7800GT and get a 7900GT/something comparable with that money.

but if i had to pick, i'd be the 7900GT. better drivers (again, IMO), and it runs quieter and there are a lot of "lifetime" warranties from xfx, bfg, and evga.

Lifetime warranty means nothing to be because I would expect the card to be replaced before it would die.
