Some thoughts:
1. Peter Dinklage (Trask) did a great job.
2. I did not like that Stryker turned out to be Mystique at the end. It would have been more awesome if it had been Stryker because then you would have known that Wolverine would have been bound to the same fate of being tortured, getting metal claws, losing his memory, etc. i.e. becoming the Wolverine that we know & love.
3. I liked that they brought Jean Gray back, because now they can do the whole Phoenix/space storyline if they want to, which opens the door to a lot more movies.
4. Quicksilver was amazing. I really enjoyed his parts. I felt they should have used him more, and should be have put in a token part about "hey, I'd like to get out of the basement, can I join your school?" I would love to see him in his own movie, same as Hawkeye. Really unexpected part & he did a phenomenal job. I also liked the bit about "my mom knew a guy who could do that with metal" hehehe...
5. It took me awhile to realize when Professor X didn't let the government guys take Magneto & kill him. After some discussion, I realized that Professor X still didn't realize just how much of a snake Magneto really is. His first talking encounter with him on the airplane makes them buddies again when he reveals that he was trying to curve the bullet away from JFK so wouldn't be killed (which was great btw, totally wasn't expecting that). So then when Magneto is on death row at the end & the professor lets him go, that's their first major parting of ways after that reunion, which explains why he doesn't just snap & let him be killed - they don't have that long history of different paths to their desired future built up yet. Makes more sense looking at it from that perspective.
6. I didn't like the Sentinels at all, especially the formless ones in the future that could magically do anything. Felt cheap. The older ones that looked like toy robots were better, but still looked like kind of a last-minute design to me (cheap).
7. Per a friend, what's the point of the stadium? It was kinda cool, but not really cool. Felt like they had to meet a deadline for an end-the-movie sequence, you know? Same with Quicksilver - awesome kid, great special effects, and then...gone. For the entire rest of the movie. What the heck!
8. I was disappointed in Wolverine I & II. Partly because of the writing, and partly because Wolverine is awesome and he spent much of the time not being awesome. It was the same thing in this movie. I liked that the movie was more adult-story oriented rather than kid-story oriented like Transformers, but I wish Wolverine had spent more time being Wolverine & doing awesome stuff. Captain America 2 comes to mind for a movie that combines great action with a fun story - they kept the story moving, but threw in tons of great fight scenes (in a way that you didn't get bored with), and it made the whole movie a lot better.
Overall it was fun, I appreciated the more adult storyline (kind of like they touched on with the Holocaust motivation for Magneto in the previous one), but I don't think I'll be buying it on Bluray for my collection.
