Series question: Am I the only one who really enjoyed X-Com 3 Apocalypse (except for the visual style)?

I enjoyed X-com 3. I had to play in "real time". If I had to play that game turn-based I'd shoot myself. It was excruciating trying to hunt down the last alien on the landscape at times.

This is basically Bioshock topside, wouldn't surprise me if they even say they are in the same universe at this point. Give us a real damn XCom or leave the IP alone, you aren't gaining support from XCom fans that love the turn base games and the damn kids that never even heard of XCom don't give a shit to start with about it. Could of just made *gasp* an original IP instead.

Hmmm...first person....fail.

You know.... There are actually many folks like you. Why is everything that's "new" fail for you people? You been bitching about Fallout 3 and now you bitch about this... Ok fine, maybe in you "old school" days these games left an impression the way they were, and you don't wanna see them "butchered" in 1st person mode... Well... Newsflash! NO ONE CARES. There is a huge new generation of PC Gamers that didn't play X-Com in it's original state.. Hell, they NEVER HEARD of it! For these people, this will be the 1st chance to get to know X-Com, and I'm sure they will love it if it turns out to be as good as Fallout 3 which was incredibly good! I consider myself "old school" too. I am probably older than you actually... But...

I personally never played Fallout 1 and 2. (OMG! Herecy!) Back when these games were introduced, I off course knew about them, but my PC couldn't handle them, and I didn't really care, because back then I had a life, and better things to do then to play video games. Finally when things went downhill and I found myself sitting home and doing nothign but play games, I tried Fallout Tactics, and despite many people bitching about how it is horrible compared to Fallout 1 and 2, I loved it, because it was NOT turn based (a good thing) and the graphics were much better. When Fallout 3 came out, I loved it so much, I beat it and all it's expansions 3 times over... So when talking about such things, consider that your kind is not the only one that exists. ; ) Luckily we both have things available to us that we can play.

If it has nothing in common with old XCOM games, then they're just name whoring. XCOM games used to be unique. Now it's going to be just another shooter. So these people who have never heard of it before will STILL not know what XCOM is all about.

Why name this XCOM? The people who know and love XCOM are going to be angered or annoyed by it, and the people who have never heard of XCOM will place no value on the name XCOM.

Seems like a bad move.

I don't mind if it is in 1st person mode, as long as your able to tactically move your squad around, and switch between members at any time (and the squad AI isn't retarded).

I think an RTS would be an easier transition, since X-Com is already a turn based strategy. All they would need to do would be to run the same thing in real time. The problem with that is controlling all those squad members in real time would be extremely difficult.

Perhaps Space Hulk revisited. A small squad (4-5) with an FPS view for your main character and mini-cameras for your squad on the HUD with the ability to switch between squad members.

A FPS set in the X-Com 1 universe (NOT the Bioshock one) could be fun -- in fact I got X-Com Enforcer as part of the Steam pack and it was fun, even though that was a low-budget shoddy attempt at it.

Starting out with regular rifles and cannon, salvaging UFOs to research new weapons, fighting greys and Chrysalids in modern 3D with fully destructible environments could be a blast. Sadly this game has nothing to do with that.

You know, Corvette owners would be pretty pissed if Chevy decided to stick the Corvette name on a Cavalier.

I dont expect you to understand that though, since it appears VERY SIMPLE points elude you. You know, things like using numbers to describe a sequence of SIMILAR titles and events.....But then finding out they arent similar.....

Fallout 3 was awesome, but it wasnt "Fallout 3". It was "FPS set in 50's era post nuclear war".

The Fallout series was never a FPS based game.

I probably would not have been as big a Fallout 3 fan if it didn't include VATS. VATS turned it into almost a first/third person version of a turn based RPG. I thought it was an excellent extension of the series.

XCOM is completely different.

Without VATS Fallout 3 would have been terrible. The setting and themes were done very well.

Sadly, XCOM will not be the same. It is going to be bad, I can just feel it.

How can anyone compare this to Fallout 3? Fallout 3 was set in the same world, had the same "feel" and was another take on the same universe fans loved in Fallout 1 and 2.

This? This is a game about aliens and it's called XCOM. It has nothing to do with any of the previous ones. All the previous games shared the same universe. This one will have nothing in common except for extraterrestrials - hence it will suck as an X-COM game.

It's like making an FPS game about mutants, robots and humans and calling it Starcraft.

I've played X-COM 3 more then 3 times in turn base mode,I would of liked to see a modern remake of X-COM 1 or X-COM 3 done,as to FPS version well I fear it won't be as good however I'll wait and see how it turns out.

I'd much rather have an X-COM game in line with the originals. The combination of real time and turn based combat was perfect. But that said, I'm going to with-hold judgment on the remake. I'm not a big fan of FPS, but the game could still be fun.

It all depends on how well they integrate the FPS and RPG elements of the game. The game needs to have the randomness that was in the original, I.E. the game cannot be on rails. *crosses fingers*

People are going to hate on this just like they hated on Fallout 3 not because companies are shitting all over IPs, but they are also shitting all over the SRPG genre. Why is every SRPG getting an FPS remake? Do they realize people still want to fucking play SRPGS? How about you try making one of those... where you have like 0 fucking competition on the market segment. What next, an FPS version of Silent Storm or Jagged Alliance (Oh wait that'd basically just be a Crysis mod...)?

If you are going to do something with X-Com, make a decent 3d entry into the series that runs flawlessly on all hardware. That is all the community could ever ask for.
