I get scared by a lot of the kids when I sub. I am 6'2" with a very large frame and plenty of muscle. The kids sometimes talk to me like a piece of shit, and when I call them on it some of them get a look in their eyes like they will slice my throat as soon as I turn around. It is frightening. This isn't the movies. You don't discharge your weapon into the air as a warning. And if you do, you can be damn sure there's going to be criminal charges coming against you, along with repair costs on the bus.

You fire a weapon, especially in public, it's to kill. It's that simple.

Getting back to this specific scenario, if the boyfriend was being attacked and tried to go for his weapon, he would've been in deep shit. You are at a serious disadvantage if you're trying to draw so close to the assailants and there's a huge chance that weapon is getting taken from you.

Let's say he does get the weapon out of his holster. What then? If you don't immediately shoot, there's a good chance that you're getting the gun taken from you. If you do shoot, there's a good chance that if your aim isn't spot on, since you're in such a public place you may hit a bystander.

This is a tough situation any way you slice it. CCW does not necessarily make it a more manageable situation.

Growing up in Baltimore, I knew it too. A couple of my cousins (on my mom's side) are a ruthless bunch of terrors.

When two of them were 14 and 15, they came in and stole a bunch of stuff from a Chinese corner store, then sicked their big ass dog on the clerk. I think the dog bit the man, then they left.

The same two then kidnapped a girl, tied her up and beat her up pretty badly. They're probably either in jail or somewhere in Baltimore robbing people or beating people up... who knows, I haven't kept up with them in years.

I've also got a few other older cousins that have been in and out of jail for robbing and attempted murder. Both are out and leading model lives right now.

On my dad's side, all of the girl cousins are popping babies out left and right. I think one of them had a kid when she was 14 and had about 3 total by the time she turned 19. I have another cousin that is 25 and has four kids living on welfare.

I'm glad my dad's job transferred him down to NC 21 years ago. Who knows what trouble I'd be up to with my cousins or how many kids I'd have

If I'm being mobbed by 15 year olds, there's a good chance it'll be taken anyways if it's even remotely accessible.

The "hitting an innocent bystander" is where it gets tricky. Either way, it I'm being mobbed, especially in a confined space, I doubt I'd be thinking about that. It'd suck if I hit anyone (understatement of the year) but chances are in that scenario I wouldn't even be aiming. Impossible not to hit something.

Along the same lines, I'd like to think that most people (myself included) would be scared shitless if they had a gun pointed at them. Let alone shooting at them. Then again, if these are the gang thugs who have gun-fights on a weekly basis, then they probably wouldn't be phased by it.

So yeah, it's a tough situation, but I still think having a gun (or at the very least a knife) would be better than nothing.
