turns out that they have a different license scheme for a dual core proc. read the email below.

becuse its a very very powerful reporting platform. we have it on our product website for our customers so they can make their own custom reports for the info that is specific to their needs.

I am not an admin, just a user, and I hate it. Kicks me off randomly, can't use Outlook to listen to voice mails, and it's slow. Oh and some devices won't work.

I only have user access to my Citrix setup, but it is pretty useful. I have a LOT of programs I have to run, many of them based in some god awful IE format that sucks up memory like crazy, and the machines we use have 512MB of ram max. So I open up about 30 programs/windows inside Citrix, which is running on a cluster down in Bothell, WA somewhere, and it's all good.

Yep, specialized tool makers really charge a tonne of money for licenses. Some of the licensing costs from companies like Synopsis and Cadence run into 6 or 7 figures. Most often it's worth it, because if software can automate something you had a team of people doing before, that is an enormous savings. Or if you buy a package instead of developing an in house tool, that's a lot of CAD people you can lay off or assign to other tasks. Software development costs money, and if it's specialized, low volume software, it's going to be expensive. Of course if you can manage to do something on open source or free software with little or no modification, then it saves a lot of money.

I use software that is $15,000 per user, per year.
