awwe...where'd my buddy go?

Should have known she would take off when I tried to collect my money. This is why I always get a down payment!

The actual value being placed usually comes from the item being rare, like an unsigned painting.

No it doesn't. The value is determined when someone purchases. I can claim that my toenail clippings are art and tell people they're worth $1,000,000 but until somebody ponies up they're worth $0.

That's partially true. But prices are really just information. They're information on how much labour/effort went into creating/obtaining/building the product.

Now there are external factors such as collectibility, appreciation, rarity and so forth.

Now morally speaking, everyone's toenails are rare and unique because they're products of your skin which is in turn dominated by your DNA. However, some toenails are more valuable than others.

Uhh...so she's a transvestite?

WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE?

Wrong. I can spend hundreds of hours on a painting, but if it sucks and nobody likes it it has no monetary value.

Now there are external factors such as collectibility, appreciation, rarity and so forth.
All of which are already taken into account when a transaction takes place. A stamp collector will value a rare $0.02 stamp at more than $0.02 and the price they pay for it displays the value that rarity adds. However until that transaction occurs it's still just a $0.02 stamp. You can argue with the mailman for hours about how it's more valuable than a brand new $0.44 stamp, but he's still going want an additional $0.42 to deliver your letter.

Now morally speaking, everyone's toenails are rare and unique because they're products of your skin which is in turn dominated by your DNA. However, some toenails are more valuable than others.
What are you talking about? How do morals even enter the picture? Value has nothing to do with morality. Value is based on the exchange of goods and services.

I was speaking from a moral standpoint which is entirely different from a purely economic perspective.

Thanks for clarifying that up though.

This thread is pretty epic.

My only contribution is that this guy's art is awful. Anyone even bothered to look at the "photographs" he's trying to sell? A drunk blind man with a P+S camera could do better than the crap he's peddling.

Here's my $0.02 for what it's worth (probably substantially less). Jeff if you aren't a hoax you should run for office, you will lose, but the experience will be invaluable. If you are smart you will learn from that experience and run better campaigns in the future.

I think my worst photos ever had better quality.
And my first prints completely done by myself in a darkroom were better.
I think I have good photographs when I stumble across the perfect scene, but in-between are a bunch of more or less meh ones, typically resulting from screwing something up, from improper exposure or just bad subject, to the most common - framing it wrong... most often due to not having the lens that really matches the vision at the time, wide-angle being the lens I am crucially in need of, or at times just from cropping something out of the frame that I thought would be unimportant, but in the end could have completed the photo more. Some of my BEST photos, in every way, suffered from.. well if I could only have chosen to include or exclude that, or if only I had a damn 10-20mm lens.

On behalf of Springfield, Massachusetts; I would like to apologize to everyone for this toolbag. He does not represent us here.

As for you, Jeffery, I will remember your name on the ballot in November and make sure not to vote for you (Not that you have much of a chance anyways). I will also be telling most of my friends and family about you and to do the same. You are, in no shape or form, not qualified nor are a representation of the population diversity here.

Oh and by the way, Jeffery, what position are you running for again?
