Was at the grocery and they were playing what must be this new album. The music was uninspiring, and Bono sounded just awful!

If they want to give it away, fine but do it as an option, regardless of auto download. Now, my daughter, who has her internet down (Time Warner sucks there) probably burned even more data downloading that piece of shit. If I go over because just a little over something like this, I'm going to be really pissed.

Isn't this why Apple people are Apple people? Apple surely knows what is best for you and your phone and what should be installed on it.

Not owning anything Apple, I completely missed this until just now. That really sucks for Apple, and I wouldn't want to be the guy whose brilliant idea that was. That said, LOL.

It might get even worse, Bono said he's working with Apple to create some new music format.

Seriously? There's already opus. It's good from very low bitrates, to very high. Voice to music, and it's low latency.

Of course there's no inhibitions against anyone using opus, so Apple isn't interested. They need to lock people out, and funnel them to their shitty Chinese hardware that's the same as any other shitty Chinese hardware, but with a greasy slathering of magic on top.

I installed itunes years ago to play round with it and promptly uninstalled as I didn't care for it and didn't have an idevice that required it. I wonder if that crap was put into my long abandoned itunes account. not worth installing itunes to find out. if I ever get an iphone maybe I'll find out then.

Paul David Hewson, aka Bono, does a lot of good charity work. He got Apple on board with Project RED years ago. He's just such a pretentious and smug asshole though.

I suppose it's nice to get a free album, even if I'm never, ever going to listen to it. I can't stand their music.

And yet, charity begins at home. U2 set up an off-shore corporation to avoid paying Ireland millions in taxes. Although, if you listen to Paul Hewson, he's actually doing the government and people of Ireland (who are under an economic crisis) a favor with his hypocrisy. This dude is so full of shit as are his smug wacky answers. I guess he didn't figure anyone would investigate or take notice.

Bono's hypocrisy on Africa, corporate tax avoidance in Ireland

Interviewer Q:The other persistent criticism is about the band's decision to offshore part of their income through the Netherlands to avoid tax. Was it not hypocrisy for you to try to hold the Irish government to account for its spending while going through fairly exhaustive efforts to avoid paying into the Irish exchequer yourself?

Bono A: It is not an intellectually rigorous position unless you understand that at the heart of the Irish economy has always been the philosophy of tax competitiveness. Tax competitiveness has taken our country out of poverty. People in the revenue accept that if you engage in that policy then some people are going to go out, and some people are coming in. It has been a successful policy. On the cranky left that is very annoying, I can see that. But tax competitiveness is why Ireland has stayed afloat. When the Germans tried to impose a different tax regime on the country in exchange for a bailout, the taoiseach said they would rather not have the bailout. So U2 is in total harmony with our government's philosophy.

Interviewer Q: But surely you have given up some authority in doing so. Was it worth it?

Bono A: I think for many reasons people have taken a dislike to our band and to me. This is another one. I have worked as an activist for all my adult life, and I think overall that no one can doubt we have been pretty effective. You can criticise me for a lot of things, but probably not for my commitment of time and energy to this. I think some of the people who criticise us in Ireland and America have a history that you can trace back to our opposition to Noraid. A lot of the others probably hate our music. And a lot of other people probably have a point…

Wow, just wow.

I really don't know what the hell he thinks a new format will enable musicians to get paid or get people to start buying music all over again. The problem isn't technical as technology now enables the most musical freedom of anytime in history. It's very easy for anyone to make/mix/master their own music. Not only that, but I can't think of any technical thing they could do that would have a big impact on convincing people to buy music. It's not like musicians are being hamstrung by having to pay royalties in modern formats.

I'm guessing this will just be about "direct master quality" recordings on iTunes where they finally announce 24/96-192 recordings, probably for a huge markup (Bono probably thinks the reasons musicians don't make money now is prices are too low).

Also, piracy has proven to be such total bullshit as the reason people don't buy music. Even studies funded by the RIAA have shown piracy has actually done jackshit, it's all the other garbage (like accusing your customers of being thieves, that always goes over well) and the fact people just don't think most modern music is worth owning (what's the point of buying half the shit when it gets constantly shouted at you all over the goddamn place?). Hell the RIAA has themselves to blame for trying to redefine "ownership" in the first place. But I digress...

He's a massive fucking hypocrite. See below. He sure as hell is not spending all his tax savings on helping the causes he's pushing.

Still think it's amusing as I had read they paid U2 $100 million to do that to begin with.
