That's hilarious that they had to make a U2 removing tool.

Well hopefully only U2 will use it, and only Apple will support it and I'll never have to listen to any new U2 songs. It might get even worse, Bono said he's working with Apple to create some new music format.

At least they were giving away U2's best album back then.
Paul David Hewson, aka Bono, does a lot of good charity work. He got Apple on board with Project RED years ago. He's just such a pretentious and smug asshole though.
I suppose it's nice to get a free album, even if I'm never, ever going to listen to it. I can't stand their music.
Interviewer Q:The other persistent criticism is about the band's decision to offshore part of their income through the Netherlands to avoid tax. Was it not hypocrisy for you to try to hold the Irish government to account for its spending while going through fairly exhaustive efforts to avoid paying into the Irish exchequer yourself?
Bono A: It is not an intellectually rigorous position unless you understand that at the heart of the Irish economy has always been the philosophy of tax competitiveness. Tax competitiveness has taken our country out of poverty. People in the revenue accept that if you engage in that policy then some people are going to go out, and some people are coming in. It has been a successful policy. On the cranky left that is very annoying, I can see that. But tax competitiveness is why Ireland has stayed afloat. When the Germans tried to impose a different tax regime on the country in exchange for a bailout, the taoiseach said they would rather not have the bailout. So U2 is in total harmony with our government's philosophy.
Interviewer Q: But surely you have given up some authority in doing so. Was it worth it?
Bono A: I think for many reasons people have taken a dislike to our band and to me. This is another one. I have worked as an activist for all my adult life, and I think overall that no one can doubt we have been pretty effective. You can criticise me for a lot of things, but probably not for my commitment of time and energy to this. I think some of the people who criticise us in Ireland and America have a history that you can trace back to our opposition to Noraid. A lot of the others probably hate our music. And a lot of other people probably have a point…
Seriously? There's already opus. It's good from very low bitrates, to very high. Voice to music, and it's low latency.
Of course there's no inhibitions against anyone using opus, so Apple isn't interested. They need to lock people out, and funnel them to their shitty Chinese hardware that's the same as any other shitty Chinese hardware, but with a greasy slathering of magic on top.

And yet, charity begins at home. U2 set up an off-shore corporation to avoid paying Ireland millions in taxes. Although, if you listen to Paul Hewson, he's actually doing the government and people of Ireland (who are under an economic crisis) a favor with his hypocrisy. This dude is so full of shit as are his smug wacky answers. I guess he didn't figure anyone would investigate or take notice.
