Who would have thought 25 years ago that they would give away a U2 album for free and no one would want it.

They not only don't want it, but are angry about it :^D

I've never been a big U2 fan. I generally like their stuff, but I get tired of it very quickly. I like hearing the occasional song, but two in a row is too many. I'm the same way with DMB. I hear a song, think it sounds good, go to play some more, and then quickly change it.

Just giving it to everyone was kind of dumb because a lot of people do auto-download new purchases.

No reason why they couldn't do what they did with the free U2 track a few months ago: make it free to "buy" on the Apple store if you want it. That approach would even force people to run through the iTunes store to make it act like a loss leader.

Why has Apple been shoving this band down our throats for the past many years?

Why do they think the majority of people even like U2?

They probably don't think it's the majority, just a lot more than anyone else willing to partner with them.

Don't forget that as much as people hate them, they sell out 60,000 seat stadiums on a consistent basis, even on multi-night shows. When they tour, they are one of the top grossing acts in terms of ticket sales for the year.

And give me a break, Bono does act like a douche, but it's "cool" to hate him more than anything nowadays. When people start spelling out why he sucks, it's usually the same talking points.

I've never seen anyone use a Samsung Galaxy S5 out in the wild. It's like some mythological beast.

My buddy just got a Galaxy S5 and was making fun of my iPhone 5S for not being waterproof. He was cooking the other day and his Galaxy slipped out of his shirt pocket into the pot. On the way down, it hit the lip of the pot just right, popped off the back portion of the case (apparently there's a rubber seam inside the backplate around the battery), and immersed the battery in water, which prompted expanded & ruined the phone. I kid you not

Live is a different matter, as they are a talented band, plus they'll play older music (the stuff people actually want to hear).

Bono doesn't just act like a douche, he's a bold faced fucking hypocrite douche. As long as those "talking points" remain completely true they remain valid. And as long as he keep doing the same shit, and as long as him and his ever more mediocre band keep getting forced into people's faces, then people are going to keep bitching about it.

If U2 was acting like Metallica, I think people would be fine. Metallica learned to STFU and focus on the music of theirs that people liked. They still make new stuff and do weird things, but they know why people go to their concerts and its not to hear St. Anger or whatever that more recent abomination of theirs was. They don't like some rich asshole in their face telling them to donate money while that rich asshole pays a lower tax percentage than they do while making probably a thousand fold more money than them.

Case in point.

What did he do to you exactly, personally, to merit this level of disdain. You can say he's a douche all you want, even I think he is, but just look at what you wrote. It's like he did something personal to you and all the other people on the internet who have to call him a douche and prick every chance they get.

It's the same thing with Nickelback. I can't even think of one of their songs, let alone name one. However, from being on the internet enough, I know that I'm supposed to hate them because it's cool. Every time someone mentions Nickelback, the word "douche" pops up in my head, then I have to ask myself why do I give a shit? I don't know their music, the only thing I do know is the lead singer married Avril and everyone hates them.

There are tons of celebrities I dislike, but I don't take every opportunity to slag them off like they stole my wife. They show up on TV or a website, I ignore it or change the channel. Sometimes, I call them a douche out loud and move on. With Bono, people just "have" to comment.

How much is he supposed to donate as a percentage of his net worth in order for him to not be a hypocrite? Most philanthropic billionaires avoid paying the same tax rates as the peons.
