WTF - a bladeless fan?

They aren't blade less, despite what they say.

Anybody try a Dyson Air Blade? I did at an airport and I have to say I was surprised at how much it sucked. Really a useless piece of sh*t. Now, we have a Dyson vacuum cleaner in the house and that thing is the real deal (there are knockoffs around now, they may be good I'm not sure) but the air blade was weak and I still had to wipe my hands off on my clothes.
 
If anyone's loaded in Canada or wants to cross the border, Futureshop has one on sale this weekend: $80 off $380. I'll just go to Wal-mart and get a piece of shit for $7, oh wait, I already did...

You probably didn't use it right. I love the air blades.

The secret is to put your hands all the way in, and then draw them out slowly in one motion. Don't do the up-down-up-down-up-down thing.

Either a can of compressed air (you'd need some way to keep the blades from moving) or a big ass air compressor with a spray nozzle. I have a nice 3 gallon Husky for filling my tires.
 
I was just thinking that I need a nice fan for my home office in the basement, I'm working today and its a bit warm today. Will have to check out the vornados.

The problem with the air blade is your hands sometimes touch the edges if you arent too careful. At least the ones in Costco's toilets. Not too sanitary in a public restroom.

Everywhere I've been in Europe had the air blades. I don't think I went to one bathroom that didn't have them. I liked them, they were pretty quick at drying.

As far as the bladeless fans, I sometimes get a headache when I use a regular fan, I wonder if these bladeless ones would be different?

I saw them in Best Buy not too long ago. They have them setup and running for the summer. It doesn't seem any better than the $30 pedestal fan I use. In fact, it doesn't seem to move as much air. Nor is it any quieter.

Canadian Tire, the local building store here, sells the Dyson fans for $380. A 5000BTU portable AC, enough for a small bedroom, goes for $350. Walmart has a Danby one for as low as $300. So I reiterate my last comment. Sure the AC uses more electricity, but the Dyson costs over 10x more and is inferior to a basic fan.

Ah, but will people stop and kiss your ass because you have a mysterious, bladeless fan! That's worth a huge premium.
 
Saw them at BB a few times. Cool, but entirely too pricey. BB was charging ~450 dollars for the taller model.
 
The Rockwell_XFV-12 used a similar principle by diverting engine thrust through ducts in the wings and canards/foreplanes which would drag even more air with it (up to a 9:1 ratio was hoped). It worked to a degree, but not as well as hoped. According to Wikipedia, the ducting somewhat killed the available thrust heading off to the various ejection points. Interesting concept, yet complicated and possibly highly weak structurally having so many parts of the wing and what not needing to be able to move. I wouldn't be surprised if the extra weight needed for this kind of system would've made a dedicated lift engine just as practical.

WTF? If you possess a triple digit IQ and basic motor skills your hands should have been dry coming out with just a little moisture on the surface if any.
