WTF - a bladeless fan?

They try to sell these to parents with young children. Hell half of the fun I had as a kid was sticking my hand into our big box fan and slowing the blades.

Funny - it's not bladeless at all - they are just in the canister section. It's also apparently very loud...

repost, and IIRC they where not truly bladeless, it was based off of an impeller motor in the base. You just don't see the spinning things. Much like you don't see your motor (normally) running in a vacuum.

i saw one at best buy yesterday. they're neat, but not $300 neat. maybe $30 if they were quiet.

all the 'air amplifier's i've seen on ebay need a crapload of compressed air ~10+ scfm @ 100+ psi

nice how they were able to cram the fan into the base but they weren't able to kill the noise

I have this one (model 630). Works well on a table next to a window. Really moves a lot of air for its size and does so fairly quietly.

Right on. I was concerned about noise since I always see the industrial ones demonstrated at full blast. Thanks for the input.

Back to the topic...when I first heard of these Dysons, I thought they were Ionic Breezes times 100x without the air purification claim.

Welcome to last year.

Very cool idea, though. It will be nice when the technology comes down in price.

So retarded. It makes you think it's completely bladeless thus quiet as hell.

They just stuck the fan inside the base and is louder than a $10 fan. Fail.

Wow at first when you guys were saying expensive I thought maybe $100.. fucking $300 HELL NO!

My Vornado that I got from woot.com several years ago for $20 pwns these things.

I was under the impression it'd be virtually silent, which is not the case, so for $300: no thank you.

Good for kids though. I remember knocking over a 15"-ish fan a bunch of times, and having to call mom to turn it off after the cage fell off pew pew pew.
