That is illegal in many places(should be in all).

BTW- My apologies, I must have missed it, where can I get the update for my iPhone that enables widgets? Would be kind of cool to use it for a while as an actual smart phone.

I'm kind of at odds with the Appletard hipster elements of the tech gutter press here. To me it's ageing but still pretty efficient in terms of user productivity.

My newest primary voice and semismartphone is Symbian for example. With what I carry, there are whole days I don't have to look at the iPhone beyond it's iPod section. I'm hoping the WP7 at least takes on that role - and more effectively so, especially after I divorce my Macs from my media collection once I don't have to keep iTunes as the effective centre of my media setup (something I need to do as long as I own an iPhone and use it to listen to stuff).

I actually know how all this stuff works, so I don't need Apple's babysitting-imposed limitations - but I do appreciate the playcount sync, which is what's kept me in the Apple ecosystem for so long (and conversely, eventually made me not even bother to stick media on the Droid). By all accounts the Zune method would work just as well for me from an on-unit function perspective, as well as being vastly better from a birds-eye point of view in terms of how media is handled in conjunction with everything else I have. The for-work stuff and the genuinely fresh interface will be a bonus.

Listen, this whole 'lolz where can I get the iphone widget' really is just mindless trolling. You know for a fact that the iPhone does not support widgets, and you're just being a dick about it. Plus, this thread is about WP7, not Android, not the iPhone.

Well, FWIW, I never came across a symbian device. I've never owned one nor anyone I knew owned one. My judgement is based on what I've read and seen through videos. I have the most hands on experience with WinMo, Android, and iOS.

WM6.5 was probably the mobile OS with the most functionality of ANY mobile OS to date. It was ugly as fvck but it had more functionality than all of the others combined! And it all worked pretty flawlessly!

So you are saying that the newer iPhone models supported multitasking from day one? Either that is your claim, or you admit that things can be patched in. Given that Apple is the one who popularized widgets in the first place, and that their big brother touch driven device already supports them, I don't see how it can be remotely approached as trolling when someone claims that they can do everything, and I ask if it was released in a patch. For those of us who need information quickly, without having to fire up several different apps, widgets are very handy. Apple is the one that drove this into my head btw, and I've gotten quite used to it.

Plus, this thread is about WP7, not Android, not the iPhone.

The only comments I have made that aren't directly related to WM7 are replies to other people. The focus of my posts has been on usability features of phones, something that carries over to all the various platforms. I've seen considerable talk in this thread about how great RIM parts are at voice dialing and how much lag their is on Android devices, but I haven't heard much talk about the usability or features of WM7.

So was the Tilt2 just completely broken? It seemed to run a Froyo build fairly decently, although the camera and bluetooth never worked so it wasn't fully functionaly, but WM6.5 certainly has a plethora of issues on that platform.
 
Huh? There are widgets in iOS. They're just limited, and not third party, I believe. Missed call/email/text counts are the examples that come to mind. Those are widgets, just 1x1 and not particularly elaborate.

The HTC HD2 is really nice with WM6.5. So nice that I went back to WM6.5 after using the HTC G1 for a year. I've also tried Android 2.2 on the HD2.

WM6 has years of development over others. It's just weak in all the more modern stuff like UI integration, social networks, app store. Though it does have a lot of apps, which you have to search out for.

Yep, the HD2 was the best ignored phone of the year IMHO... It got virtually no press, but XDA has hacked the holy living crap out of it, it's an amazing device.

Functionality of the Tilt2 is rather terrible, and tracking down apps is a huge PITA(although they do have some of the better cross platform offerings- Bump actually seems to be quite a bit smoother on the Tilt2 then my iPhone). I think the phone works quite nicely overall(minus blue tooth and the camera), once it's running an Android ROM, WM6.5 is just plain terrible. The fact that it is capable of doing something doesn't do you much good if it takes longer then it would to get to a desktop and do it there and then get back to where you were.

Still waiting for the link from you showing some widget support for the iPhone. It almost comes across that you were just spewing FUD trying to champion your company of choice, but I can't assume people are just puppets to corporations so it must be simply a limit of your time as to why you haven't backed up your claims.

Of course functionality can be added to a smartphone. Just ask Google, who launched Android without significant amounts of core functionality (like every single smartphone platform has). In terms of usability that makes a whopping zero difference to me nor does it change the accuracy of the statement that widgets are available on the larger iOS devices. If I am capable of fixing something to improve its' functionality in a profound manner then I'm willing to spend a little bit of time doing it.

How do they differ precisely? Unlike most of the posters here, I run all these different platforms regularly- I have at least one of pretty much every remotely decent mobile platform(no WebOS device atm). Not going to pick up a WM7 at launch, but I'll have my hands on one before too long(honestly would rather get something with a bit more punch then a Snapdragon on the GPU side when talking about a late '10 smartphone).

No one here actually believes that you are honestly asking if widget support has been added. Everyone here knows that you are feigning this "honest question" because you feel like being a dick. So you're both trolling, AND openly lying about it.

Did the link I provide not work for you? You provided a link with the Google search widget, a music player widget, calendar widget and photo widget. On the link I provided they show a music player widget, clock widget, photo widget and a settings widget. Currently I'm using an Android device as my primary phone precisely because of widget support, I am very familiar with exactly what they are and what they do. They are available on the iPad right now, they aren't that I am aware of on the iPhone.
 
The difference is, you are in an App and the app is providing that functionality.

On Android, you can be on your homescreen and can install both widgets and apps on the screen.

On iOS, you can only install apps on your homescreen.

Please learn the difference.

Functionality wise WM6.5 still is lightyears ahead of all the current mobile OSs (iOS, android, Symbian ... probably also WP7?), the GUI was just butt-ugly!

If WinMo 6.5 could grant me three wishes, I still wouldn't buy it because of its clunky, ugly, slow, and frustrating UI.
