LOL...people like you are really funny...

the kind that don't appreciate the value of their knowledge and are quite oblivious to the fact that people will pay a lot for their services....

I dunno, I don't feel like I know a lot about computers other than the basics, so I guess that's why I can't appreciate it. I haven't learned something mindnumbingly new about computers for several years now, and I've learned everything from hands-on experience. I know people who can't even plug in the VGA or DVI cable to the motherboard because they don't know which one it goes in, but doesn't i make sense that it only goes in the one that it fits in? That's how I learned.

I am not trying to criticize but rather inspire you to realize that you probably know somethign that someone else does not any they are sometimes willing to pay a LOT for it.

You plug a DVI cable into the motherboard. Either you have the sweetest onboard video I've ever heard of, or you didn't learn very well.

Cheaper than I thought it would be... you have to take in account: rent, insurance, marketing, travel, etc...

Also, it's not like they get 20 jobs a day... they might get like 1-6 jobs a day which wouldn't be that much total money.

If anyone in Geek Squad was smart they would give in home clients there contact info and do all repairs off the books in the future for a cheaper price but keep 100% of the profit.

Lots of people know how to change their oil, but oil and go still does well.

Besides, some one has to pay for those custom painted VW Beetles they cruise around in...those things aren't cheap you know!

Hahaha dammit. That's what I get from good old karma. I was going to say back panel but then I wasn't sure if that would include everything, so instead I said motherboard and that included even less than back panel. :D

But I do have this sweet mobo from our 486 with a sweet parallel printer slot.

Okay, $29 to put a stick of memory in, $59 to run a virus scan one time, $89 to make you a 4GB DVD, $118 for an extra-special virus scan :)confused;), $159 to set up a wireless network in your home, and $229 to copy one hard drive's data to another.

Biggest fvcking ripoff ever.

Gee, for someone with such a self-proclaimed command of PC repair, your lack of business fundamentals is quite surprising, especially considering both require a strong foundation in what's known as "common sense".

Personally, when I happen to do some consulting on the side, those prices are a bargain compared to mine. Of course, I make on-site visits, almost exclusively to businesses.

Ahhh... well good for them. I still agree that it isn't too expensive. Things are priced at what people are willing to pay for them.

For people that think the pricing is unreasonable, are you saying if you have a car that is worth $2000, but someone is willing to pay $5000, you would price it lower than $5000?

Way to read the thread. I said I DON'T feel I have any spectacular knowledge of computers or PC repair beyond the basics. Furthermore, if "common sense" business skill is to grossly overcharge then I'm glad I lack the foundation you have. I'd rather help someone out for a fair amount and explain to them so they can help themselves in the future maybe.

I'm sure that the reason what I estimated seems like bargain is because with you, they get the great gift of your presence and knowledge.

Must've missed it somehow.

That seems really reasonable to me, although free on new systems seems a bit too nice. :p

Not $3000 less, but I wouldn't fvck them over for $5000. I guess I'm just old-fashioned for being honest.

It's a service, not a ripoff.

Wake up and smell the coffee. My place of employment is $95 per hour for a plumber or HVAC Tech (me). You couldn't pay me $95 an hour to do plumbing work. Best Buys prices are very reasonable. I knew of a "Mom & Pop" shop that charged $10 per infected file for Virus Scanning. You had to bring in the hard drive, they would not do it at your house or if the drive was still in your comp. A friend had 170 infected files, I did it for the cost of lunch. When he got his comp back, it was defragged and updated. All for a free lunch.

well not all new computers

only if they get the platinum service plan with it, witch can easly reach 549.99 and then sum just by itself

and about 530 for lap tops

the plans go by how much the computer is so if you bought a computer 4000 dollars and up a 3 year plat would be 749.99 (but i think the most expensive desktops are between 2000 and 3000

the most expensive laptop plan is going to be for laptops 1400 and up so thats 499.99 for the laptop plan then you can get a plat upgrade for 130 to give you that data transfer

thats partly why its given free for the plat. plans
