Cramer says that large insurance company stocks are sub-prime disaster proof.

Between my 401k and investment portfolio I've lost several thousand in the past few weeks.

However today, one of my stocks is up ~7% so it's currently leading me to short-term glory.

5 months ago, after the Asian market crash fiasco, shorties were saying we'd never see 12K again. Ooops.

etrade and schwab basically locked up midday and the dow stopped falling. Too much of a coincidence.

Why wow?

You should be thrilled

Dave do you own any stocks?

I think he's a majority stakeholder in the symbol FUD.

Hedge Funds that deal in billions have a HUGE EFFECT on the market swing.

They're playing on the volatility. The Dow is swinging 150 points in a matter of minutes as of 3:37PM ET. That's HUGE money brought to you by the folks at hedge funds and brokerages to a lesser extent.

On the Chicago Exchange, traders are saying they've never seen such swings, so huuuuuge, so faaaaast. All computers!

.
.
.

The good thing folks is that the fundamentals of companies are fine.

......Actually, as of today, the P/E ratios are at 1997 levels!!! So YES, we should be fine. The correction/flush should be on its last legs. Any further downs are because of FEAR, not logic.

So stay put for the course. Ride it out if you can..... After all, the 401k is a long term investment, not a day/week/month trader vehicle...... :D

And right at closing it's in positive territory, up about 14. Wild ride today.

Best trading day for me since the bubble burst. I traded over 60 stocks, all from the long side, and lost (minimally) on only 4. Seemed like there was an outstanding buying opportunity at some point or another in almost every stock.

There have been reports of some computer traders doing almost 50% worth of the days trading at a little after 3, which is another reason there have been so many swings lately with the daily tallies.

I hate when people say "lost". First of all, if you haven't sold, then you haven't lost anything. Second, decreased would be a better term then lost. It didn't just disappear, you invested it.

My wife and I jumped out of the stock market about 3 months ago, as she was concerned about mortgage situation. It is hard to know now what to put money into.

Meh, I'm still up 11.6% on the year (up 7.58% in the past 3 months). Up 26.97% since inception.

Small cap, growth, and EuroPac stocks are still running strong. :p

i was complaining that i've lost $40 over the past week in my newly created 401k, then the guy i'm working with says he's lost $100k in 2 weeks, i don't feel so bad.

Well, it's probably a failrly low percentage of his net wealth if he's investing it like that, so he's likely not hurting. I could be wrong though. I just checked, I'm not doing well myself. I was up 17% this year, now I'm up 4.2%.

yeah, i started my 401k in may and i'm at -5.4% so far haha.

yeah i just started a couple months ago in 401k, and i'm at -0.2% after being at 12% about a month ago =(
