Well, I am already reading reports of bots running in WOW. Ebay has about 200 auctions for gold so I guess the bots are being used to level and find gold. No item's for sale on ebay yet... Regardless of the pay to play it looks like WOW is going to be another bot filled mess just like Diablo II. Very sad. The difference though is that this time Blizzard can probably be sued since people are paying... Another month will tell the full story.
 EverQuest has had macroers for over five years. It only started sucking when Sony decided to start making changes in an attempt to increase profits, which didn't happen until about three years ago. The Luclin expansion is the first one they had a major hand in (though they owned the game since they bought it in beta), and that expansion is, not coincidentally, the first one that people en masse really didn't like... and every expansion since has gotten progressively worse. Further, WoW has been live for four - 4 - days. Sony regularly goes months before fixing glaring bugs, if they bother at all. Give Blizzard a chance. Even if the game ends up mediocre, it's far better than Sony's offerings, and I'll gladly play it. That being said, I know better than to play a mmog in its first month
On the monthly fee everyone is making a big to-do about, keep in mind it's not for everyone. People who don't have the time or inclination may do better avoiding MMOGs, but for those of us who enjoy them, it can be a great investment. $13-$16 a month, depending on mmog, for more & better entertainment than TV at its $40-$100+ per month pricetag. Players also make up a big part of the online experience; if it weren't true, nobody would pay the fee - everyone would play offline RPGs. What can make it worth it is when, unlike your typical counterstrike kiddies, the people you play with can type properly (ie. no "y ur 2 wut iz plz ne1 thx"), are older than 10, and are worthy of forming lasting connections & even friendships with. I've never met one of my closest friends in person. Of course, Sony ruined EverQuest - but the potential is there. Time will tell whether WoW will realize it, but if anyone can recreate the magic, it's Blizzard.
