A friend of mine interned there for the past two summers. He said it's the most awesome place to work.

One of their recruiters tried to sway me. I have little doubt I'd have gotten an offer if I'd accepted the interview. I did not.

So I guess my answer is no.

no i mean what kind of questions did they ask? were they extremely detailed questions? all technical interview or behavioral also?

it's good that you were able to answer all the questions. Google is rumored to treat their employees really well. So I will not hesitate in taking a job with them, but they dont have many positions in the NYC area (not that I'd get them anyways)

I have an iphone app that records phone calls...should have done it so I could type them out/document it, haha.

But they asked detailed questions about specific ports/routing/switches/server hardware/etc....detailed. They take an 'educational' stand on their questions, which is kind of a pain, because what I knew I didn't learn in school....but the second fella asked some questions that were situational to the job...third was basic questions about google, and what it does, why you want to work here, hr type questions.

where is that colourful letter?

This one?

Google seems like an awesome place to work, but I would not work there either. Why? It has nothing to do with my career goals and I would rather work for small companies.

^ This is exactly why I didn't jump on the google boat. Lots of second thoughts.

A few years ago since that call, I'm already changing my career direction - didn't think it would have happened to me when I was doing my share of IT back then. Heck, I thought I would do IT all my life and damn, 2 years of some stuff can really change your mind.

It's really your own choice, ViviTheMage. If this is the direction you want to take in life by all means, no one should hold you back. Just don't do it because the hype blinded you, you might be regretting it in a few years.

I have nothing against small companies at all, i work at one right now ... less then 1,500 employees....but from what i've read Google is the shit, when it comes to jobs, and where to work.

I am only 22, so working for Google should be pretty "fun" and some really good experience..seeing as they are very fond of doing your own thing.

If you're 22, I'd take the job... would make for an impressive blurb on your resume for future jobs. 😛

I think when people usually think of Google being fun to work at, they're usually talking about the Mountain View campus and surrounding buildings.

I applied there many years ago. I was referred by an employer who I had done some snazzy and lucrative web marketing for. Filled out paperwork, got called in for an interview. The interview was creepily condescending, and they offered me a clerical job for minimum wage and no benefits, at a place a few hours away.

That kind of thing happens when you're female and over fifty.

Given what I know about their workplaces, I don't think I'd fit into their culture. Obviously if I was unemployed, I'd love to work there.
