Would you rather work 5 4-hour shifts, or 4 5-hours shifts?

4 5's less days. In fact 1 20 would be preferred if offered.

Must be nice - I used to work 6 12's much of my life.🙁

4 days @ 5 hours each. Seeing as how I'm used to working 8 hour days, the difference between a 4 hour and a 5 hour is minimal to me.

This is what I figured. I'm throwing Wednesday out the window so I can put a lab in there instead. Plus, it'll be nice not to work 3 in a row.

Ewww, I worked 6x12's for a year on 3rd shift and there wasn't much of a life at all.

Yeah but I don't work anymore and not yet 40 and have no plans otherwise. Pay now or pay later but you will pay is a motto I sorta live by.

If I only worked 2 days per week, Ideally, it would be 2 x 10 hour days.

The 6 12s that you and Tallbill worked would suck.

I would hate working that much. For a while in my early 20s, after dropping out of college before I was on salary, I'd often work 50-60 hours and collect overtime .... but my 52 week rolling average hours stayed below 60 the whole time. I did do a stint of working 12 hours a day 7 days, every other week .... (overnight shift in tech support), at the end of that week I would be so drained and bored, I'd recharge on Monday, then my sleep would be all screwed up ...

i'll go for three 13.5 hour shifts and a 20% raise

when i was in the Navy , working as an instructor at a land based nuclear training facility, we did rotating shift work , i did this schedule for over 3 years straight

9 hour days (due to overlap/shift turnover), 7 days straight, rotating shift work, with a varying number of days off in between. A typical cycle is shown below:

Day 1-7 : Swing Shift, 1530-2330
Day 8-9: OFF (However, you start night shift at 2330 on Day 9. Essentially 1.5 days off)
Day 9-16: Night Shift, 2330-0730
Day 16-18: OFF (In this case, you get off at 0730 the morning of Day 16. Kinda like 3 days off.)
Day 19-26: Day Shift, 0730-1630
Day 27-28: OFF (Always a "normal" weekend. Off on Friday night, return Monday morning)
Day 29-32: Training Week, day shift 0730-1630
Day 33-37: OFF!!! (This is your 4-day. )
Repeat.

I did a support job like this as well. Seven 12 1/2 hour days on, followed by three or four days off. Good OT money, but I ended up spending most of that first day off sleeping in to recover!

Don't really like any of the options, but as of a couple of weeks ago, I'm working 4-5 hour days per week at my job in the CPA firm...and 5-3 hour days in tax school...which will become 5-4 hour nights during tax season as well as occasional Saturdays and Sundays.

neither. if i can't work a full 40-hr week, imma look for a new job.

I need to work to keep myself sane, but I could certainly be happy with about 20 hours or so a week. Just enough to give me a reason to wake up and to feel useful.

I think 4 hours a day 4-5 days a week would be great.

No man ever laying on his death bed ever said.......... I wish I had worked more!!

That being said. at 12 years old I had a paper route. Worked my uncles dairy farm every summer up at 5am bed by 10pm. at 15 I worked at Woolworths for $4.00 a hour.. Im 45 years old and have always worked from auto Mechanic to Maint mechanic on PMC cup machines.. I now manage several crews that print crap for fast food places.. This printing press would scare most people as it can run a car sized roll of paper in 10 minutes. It runs at 1200 FPM printing like mad..

That being said I put in at least 65 hours per week over 20 years. I have watched my kids grow without me being there.. Missed birthdays, Friends, family.. To the guy that posted this thread..... Figure out a way to live your life without working your ass off. I own a house that is over 2700 square feet. Custom Jandy controled pool. Lots of toys too... Last weekend I woke at 4am went in for 3 hours came home and mowed the lawn then went back in to finish some work... One of my best friends is a nurse.. Over a month time he works about 15 days at 12 hours a day. I make more but he has a much better life.. Just my 2 cents..

The only way you could get me to work a 20-hour week... would be to DOUBLE my pay.

I couldn't live on 1/2 my current paycheck.

That's a stupid question, why would you work an extra day to save 1 hour? What are you gonna do with that one hour? More than what you'd do with an extra day?

I work 10 hours instead of 8. This way if I don't go in my extra day, I still have 50 hours and if I miss a day I still have 40. Having less than 40 hours of pay sucks.
