Would you mind if the USPS stopped working on Saturdays?

On average there is only mail in my mailbox 3 times a week already. Wouldn't really bother me if they didn't deliver on Saturdays.

If you don't want junk mail, your best bet is to call each company that sends it and asked to be removed from the list.

I never get any; if I did, I just chuck it, no big deal.

I have called the companies and requested for them to not send me anything. Guess what? They say they've removed me but keep on sending.

Don't even get me started about the local sales mailer one of my local newspapers (Houston Chronicle) sends out. Bunch of stupid ass sales papers wrapped in plastic that fill my mailbox repeatedly.

Same thing happens when I call the Chronicle. I'm not on their mailing list but yet I still continue to get their stupid shit. Perhaps you could call them and get them to stop sending that crap to me and everybody else in this many multi-million metro population area? Yeah, I didn't think so.

Sorry, no offense to you. I just hate this bulk mail shit with a passion.
It sounds then as if you're a proponent of extensive (intrusive) Government Regulation and oversight into business practices and Regulation of their ( Corporations / Business) "right" to free speech.

You sure about that? ;)

they aren't targeting Saturday for a non-delivery day....they are looking to target one of the lesser trafficed days like Tuesday.

Story I heard this morning was that they were considering cutting saturday or tuesday.

Yeah, it's a real heartbreaker that they're doing this to cover pension cost. Maybe they should do like congress and just spend what they have now and worry about the total due later. Or go like 80% of the US and drop pensions. Ah it's going to be glory days ahead.

I would be fine with 5 day mail delivery. It'd be important for the post office to be remain open on whatever day they were not delivering mail regardless. While they aren't delivering mail, people still need to be able to send it (be it SAT or TUES).

Tuesday seems weird to cutoff to me just cause it's in the work week and is a business day. Whereas Saturday is on the weekend... even if Tuesday is lower volume, it seems like it'd still make more sense to cutoff Saturday, unless of course it is just absurd how little mail they deliver on Tuesday or something. I don't really know much about their volume by day. I'd be fine either way I suppose.

You couldn't be more wrong about me.

How about this? The USPS doubles rates on postage (letters, packages, etc.). The USPS quadruples (at least) bulk mailing rates. The USPS makes more money. The 'fly by night' companies and spammers stop sending so much crap. Legitimate companies either push their customers to go to electronic bill notifications and electronic bill pay or charge a service fee to recoup their postage cost. My mailbox is less full. There's less crap going in the trash.

Stopping Saturday delivery is stupid. Why not stop delivery on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday? Pick a day that is surrounded by two normal delivery days. No delivery Saturday AND Sunday is a big dead spot.

The saturday crap I think is long dead...it was part of the proposal years ago and even then they learned that was a bad day for non-delivery.

It doesn't matter what actions you take now, the Post Office as we know it will not continue to operate in its current state forever, and will become obsolete just as telegraphs, the Pony Express, and smoke signals all have in the past.

I see the post office of the future as a central depot for mail, like PO boxes but for everyone. An average citizen would stop in and pick up the mail when they please. If you want the mail delivered to your house, you pay USPS for the delivery service, or you pay Timmy down the street to pick it up for you.
