I'd have to think, when your commute is so short that you'd think about riding a scooter, gas prices are probably negligible anyways.

I commute about a mile to work... that 1 tank of gas a month isn't really stressing my budget, especially since with a scooter, I'd still have to use my car a lot anyways for shopping trips / going up north to visit my friends/parents.

People do that all the time on a bicycle.

I do. And I can only carry what fits in my backpack. If I need to buy a decent amount of food, I take my car even though its about a 2 minute bike ride to the grocery store.

Haven't you heard of bike trailers ?

I'll spend the $1 in gas vs. hauling grocery's on a wagon like a mule

You don't have to haul grocery's on wagon like a mule. It is not that difficult.

No. I value my self respect.

fixed

I prefer to keep my man card

I'd feel more like man if I used the money I'd be saving in gas to hang out more often at my local Cigar Bar. I still won't do it because of safety, commute distance, and weather reasons though.

I find it funny that people are THAT insecure about themselves that they feel riding a scooter would somehow be belittling themselves.
many people feel the same way about small cars. scooter haters are probably the same people or a subset.

Still worth $1 for me. If it gets to the point where you need to attach more things to a bike, time to think about taking a car.

No you can save enough money by not having a car to send your kids to college.

I think that means "you can save enough money to send kids to college if you don't have a car"

But that also implies that you can get to work in 6" of snow, and really get to work at all. It may be hard to belive, but bike's are not the answer to the energy crisis.

my dad just bought a 50cc scooter to ride to work (a few miles in a rural area) and to putz around doing other things instead of using his huge diesel truck or his 66 Biscayne.

i personally would have gotten a motorcycle since it can go faster than 35mph. the reason he opted for 50cc was because he can ride it without getting licensed for motorcycles.

So, how many people has she killed so far?

I think she said she may have ran over a ped. or biker a few weeks ago but she is not absolutely sure. She was more concerned that she spilled some of her beverage, I'm glad we opted for dark leather.

I just got a 150cc a couple weeks ago and have gotten between 85 and 100mpg on it. It's a blast to ride. I even did a bunch of 50mph+ with it and still got that high gas milage.

It's a Roketa Aruba. It's very cheaply made, but it was very cheap to buy and is lots of fun to drive.

Why anyone would spend 1500+ on a damn scooter boggles my mind. For that much or a little more you could get a used 250 street bike that would be way better.

Like a Honda nighthawk, Ninja 250, numerous older 70-90's 250-600 street bikes. Hell craigslist is full of them. Scooters are for 12 year old kids to poke around on in the neighborhood.

It's .4 damn miles to the grocery store. Assuming 30mpg and $4/gallon, it costs me 5.3 cents to drive to the grocery store. Whoop dee doo.

rofl, I already have the damn car. I bought it when I was 15 (am now 20) for $2000. Most people cannot get by without a car of some sort. Going without a car so you can "send your kids to college" is fucking absurd. Together, my mother and father make over $200,000, and they're not even paying for all of my college education. They pay half.

And lol, a bike trailer? I'd get fucking shot toting around one of those where I live. Probably by myself because I had a FUCKING BIKE TRAILER.

i can't speak for the other bikes, but in the portland area, people want $2000-$2500 for their 15 year old ninja 250s with 20,000+ miles on them. if they want less, they probably are missing parts or have been dropped several times.
last time i looked, ninja 250s were still $3000 brand new at the dealer. the funny thing is, $2500 puts you very close to used ninja 500-600-636 (?) territory
