Would you drive a scooter to work?

Just brainstorming here. With gas prices just climbing, do you think a market will open for scooters? Someone is trying to talk me into investing in it.

If I lived close to work sure. But most people commute and drive on the highway; I would never ride a scooter on a highway.

Too dangerous for my tastes and I live in Florida where it rains a lot so I wouldn't do it. I can't say that the idea isn't tempting though.

*Blatant Plug* If you want a scooter, look into the Yamaha Vino (96mpg, starting at $1949). *Blatant Plug*

i would if could comfortably travel at at least 60mph. of course, pricewise, that probably gets you into ninja 250 territory...

scooters are like fat chicks. they're fun to ride until your friends see you.

I don't know prices yet, but one of the scooters I'm looking at is 300cc with a top speed of 80mph.

The faster you go the worst it is.

Well that's the question. Are we at the point, or where will be at the point soon where the price of gas and the hurt on your wallet will overcome the embarrassment of looking like a nerd. :)

You don't look like a nerd on a scooter. You could say the same thing on a bike and no one does. Plenty of bikes (bicycles) that you can ride in the winter, rain, snow, etc.

I don't see the benefit of a highway capable scooter vs. a motorcycle. I picked a motorcycle. 45-50 mpg and lots of fun. My wife and I cruise all over the Tidewater area.
