Obviously. I don't discriminate based on personal preferences as long as they don't either. It would be easier in a lot of ways if my partner(s) were ok with firearms, since so much of my life/day revolve around them.

A little FYI, a silencer is the same as a suppressor. There is no such thing as a Hollywood style silencer.

1) He was being sarcastic.

2) You're not impressing anyone.

Also, having fired the exact gun you happened to mention (USP/Mk23; USP Tactical with a Gemtech Blackside, more specifically)...it's pretty goddamn silent, actually. As least the muzzle report is; the loudest noise is the action.

...for about two shots after you've packed it with a good cooling medium, that is. The grease (or water, if you're Navy SEAL or something) vaporizes damn quick.

Also, have you never heard a suppressed .22LR?

1) You sure about that? I don't know him and that is a common misconception.

2) Wasn't trying to impress, just trying to clear up a misconception.

That is the exact gun I'm planning on purchasing as soon as I can find a dealer that has one in stock. I've heard it with a Ti-Rant supressor and its sound suppression depends on quite a few variables, ammo (sub sonic for best results), dry or wet (people use water, but like you mentioned, doesn't last long) and also outside tempature (the cooler weather, the louder the sound). Still even with all the suppression, a 45 is going to make a sound. The 9mm version is dang quiet, but again, it's not what Hollywood makes it out to be (No, chirp chirp). That's my point.

And FYI, that 22 link is loud in comparison to a well suppressed 45 or 9. Here is a good example of what you can expect from a well suppressed 9mm. You can do a little more to get it even quieter, but it's no chirp chirp.

All you can hear off that .22 is 'clack clack clack.' That's why I picked an auto video; it illustrates that pretty much all the noise is in the action cycling.

I haven't heard a lot of 9mm's. But I believe the claims that stuff like the MP5SD with the right ammo is pretty damn quiet. But AFAIK .45 should be easier to suppress since it's inherently a lower pressure, subsonic cartridge, no?

I'm not fighting for use of the term 'silencer' or for Hollywood pew-pew laser sounds, BTW. But some movies just do the 'clack' noise, and that can be pretty accurate.

Just like unsuppressed noises are usually terrible...but sometimes not.

Tom Cruise says 'hey, sometimes we actually kinda get shit right.'

(fuck I love that scene)

That was my only point. Some people think a silencer is completely silent like a freakin' bow and arrow. Movies will often times have the gun make a chirp sound, with no slide action noise making it out like you can fire it off right next to someone and he wouldn't notice it. Again, that was my only point of clarification. The term I don't care about. People use the term silencer and suppressor interchangeably, no big deal. But let's not pretend they are 2 different things.

Yes, that was an awesome scene. And yes, I loved that movie. But that scene alone made the movie for me. :)

I say that to my daughter all the time...

"Yo, homie... that my briefcase?"

Watch the 'making of' for that, I guess he trained quite a bit to be able to do that. Awesome...

Damn, that is definitely quiet with the water. I wouldn't mind picking up an Osprey suppressor one of these days. Thinking about going the trust route but I'd have to do some reading on it.

Wouldn't have a problem with it, unless she was obsessed with guns, self defense, race wars, basically anything similar to Spidey's mentality.

Even after she shows you the Walther PPK and silencer she keeps in her truck for "work"?

My wife is a federal agent and carries a Glock every day. So, yes.

And yes, she has threatened to shoot me on numerous occasions. I am not worried. Partly because she is a terrible shot, and party because she needs me for money generation purposes.

Who knows maybe one day we'll read about a Federal agent who shot her husband in "self-defense" they'll be questions about the circumstances but her lawyer will get her off.

In court and out of court... /bad pun time

Fired a 1911 with a gemtech. Run dry, no...it's still loud enough to hear the round going off. Add water and it's pretty quiet. That said, dry it's still enough of a difference to save your hearing. I shot it suppressed with no protection. Would NOT do that unsuppressed.

On the whole dating thing....that doesn't disqualify her. But I'm biased...I own 10 guns.

A 800 fps .45ACP isn't hard to suppress to begin with.
