A little FYI, a silencer is the same as a suppressor. There is no such thing as a Hollywood style silencer.

Also, having fired the exact gun you happened to mention (USP/Mk23; USP Tactical with a Gemtech Blackside, more specifically)...it's pretty goddamn silent, actually. As least the muzzle report is; the loudest noise is the action.

That is the exact gun I'm planning on purchasing as soon as I can find a dealer that has one in stock. I've heard it with a Ti-Rant supressor and its sound suppression depends on quite a few variables, ammo (sub sonic for best results), dry or wet (people use water, but like you mentioned, doesn't last long) and also outside tempature (the cooler weather, the louder the sound). Still even with all the suppression, a 45 is going to make a sound. The 9mm version is dang quiet, but again, it's not what Hollywood makes it out to be (No, chirp chirp). That's my point.

And FYI, that 22 link is loud in comparison to a well suppressed 45 or 9. Here is a good example of what you can expect from a well suppressed 9mm. You can do a little more to get it even quieter, but it's no chirp chirp.

That was my only point. Some people think a silencer is completely silent like a freakin' bow and arrow. Movies will often times have the gun make a chirp sound, with no slide action noise making it out like you can fire it off right next to someone and he wouldn't notice it. Again, that was my only point of clarification. The term I don't care about. People use the term silencer and suppressor interchangeably, no big deal. But let's not pretend they are 2 different things.

Damn, that is definitely quiet with the water. I wouldn't mind picking up an Osprey suppressor one of these days. Thinking about going the trust route but I'd have to do some reading on it.

Fired a 1911 with a gemtech. Run dry, no...it's still loud enough to hear the round going off. Add water and it's pretty quiet. That said, dry it's still enough of a difference to save your hearing. I shot it suppressed with no protection. Would NOT do that unsuppressed.

On the whole dating thing....that doesn't disqualify her. But I'm biased...I own 10 guns.

A 800 fps .45ACP isn't hard to suppress to begin with.
