Hehe. I'm deaf myself so its interesting to see all the replies here. The funny thing is, I've never even dated a deaf girl myself (geek jokes aside). But sure, I'd date one. I don't know if I'd want to marry one myself though in my present condition. It's kinda a harsh thing for me to say I guess. I know a ton of completely deaf households and they manage just fine but i'd like the added security of having someone being able to use the phone, or be able to hear a crying baby in the night and things like that.

I'm pretty sure I would. A disability such as this should have little effect on emotion. But, what kind of problems, if any, could you foresee is such a relationship? Assuming you know no sign language but she reads lips fairly well.

What about public events.. going to movies, etc?
What kind of aid is available for deaf people? IE: if you go to a movie do the theatres offer any aide?

Con: Always have to watch DVDs with captions on.
Pro: Never have to talk on the phone!
Pro: You could talk dirty almost any time you felt the urge...
;)

but, ok. I'm kinda serious about this.

About things like movies and stuff. Most areas offer open captioned movies atleast once a month... check out Insight Cinema , they'll have a listing of all the captioned movies that are showing there. Some theaters might also offer assistive listening devices, but those will be of little use if she's completely deaf/can't understand the words. And dude, sign language is easy to learn. ;) It's basically broken English (hardcore american sign language people will probably crucify me for saying that).

Be prepared not to be accepted by her deaf friends from what I understand it can be a pretty closed culture. IIRC

Well it depends on the people mostly, I had a hearing friend who dated a deaf girl I knew. It was kinda tough for him to chill with her crowd but it was mostly communication that was the barrier. If you know sign language (or at least attempt to learn it), it shouldn't be a problem. But it is kinda true though, it's very cliqued. I think it's pretty ridiculous myself... Hell, I don't even chill with the deaf people at my school anymore but I still go to the parties. :D
