I'm married to a blind woman so I wouldn't have a problem dating a deaf person I'd imagine. Would take a little adapting is all.

They main cons that I can think of is not being able to listen to music together and I'd have to answer the phone more often (I hate phones).

You talk about people that you don't know,
You talk about people wherever you go
You just talk, talk too much
You talk about people that you've never seen,
You talk about people, you can make me scream
You just talk, you talk too much

If you liked her... I don't see why not Everybody has their differences that make you adjust in the way you handle yourself in the relationship, etc. This would be more obvious and would require work on your half, obviously... but if the girl was really worth it in the first place, then she is worth working through her deafness and learning sign language, etc.

Be prepared not to be accepted by her deaf friends from what I understand it can be a pretty closed culture. IIRC

Really? Wow, that is interesting. :) How did you guys meet? What was dating like? I worked with a woman that was blind...a long time ago. She didn't even have a guide dog...she took the bus to work and walked all by herself, in MANHATTAN. :Q It used to AMAZE me that she got to work in one piece everyday!

OH, and then Jamie said to me that I really should work late because I came in one minute late yesterday morning. And I gave her SUCH a look that Melinda looked over at ME and rolled her eyes and then we all started laughing! But then Cindy called me on my mobile and I didn't know what to say to her because of last week when I was at her place and Tom walked in and...you remember Tom, right? He's married to Linda, who I used to work with and then he said....

^...and that's all in only ten seconds.

Aside from the talking dirty part, which I like, I'd MARRY a deaf woman.

LMAO! Classic MichaelD there... :beer::D

We met online on a MUD and I guess you could say we "dated" over the internet for around 3 months. I moved in with her and we got married shortly after. It was very quick and a pretty dumb naive move in retrospect, but we're lucky that it's worked out. Been 4 years now. :)

Some blind people prefer canes, some prefer dogs. My wife uses both and is on her second guide dog. They can get around quite well on their own once they're familiar with the route, it can take a lot of practice. Manhattan is pretty damn extreme but anything's possible obviously.

It's cool watching my wife and her dog work, even just to take him out to do his business. He's very alert and always looking around. If a car's coming and it's going to cross their path he'll stop dead and won't move until he's sure all's clear. She'll even discipline him for it sometimes because she's not aware of the danger but he still doesn't budge. Then she feels all bad when she hears the car go by, hehe. Apparently he's had $30,000 worth of training. :Q

Nohr,

That is a really neat story! :) Stupid question: when you were "dating" online, did you know she was deaf? How difficult was it to communicate in person as opposed to via keyboard?

If you love her you'll buy buy Bose next time :D

If you like her and see it going further why not? Hearing loss isn't that bad. Even Paul McCartney married a lady with one leg and he could have any woman in the world.

I did, it sucked:(

Till you're around someone's who's really deaf, you don't understand how screwed up the world can be if you can't hear anything.

There are groups of hard core deaf people that don't want hearing aids, cochlear implants, or anything to help them... They don't even want to be around people that can hear.
