Only bad thing I've heard is that it causes loss of sensation, but I have no experience with this and my sensation is just fine.

I have a friend that was uncut and converted to Judaism when he married (Jewish wife, obviously) and he reports the opposite. He said that he has lost sensation post-circumcision. I'm not a doctor or anything but it seems to me that if the nerve endings are getting rubbed all the time on your underwear instead of being covered by the foreskin then that must make a difference.

The argument is typically that being circumsized causes the loss in sensation for that reason, not vice versa.

Oops, misread. Got it now.

I know a guy who has scars over 1/2 of his body from where he was burned in a fire. He plans on throwing any sons of his into a fire for a few seconds so that they look like him.

Why the FVCK does it matter if he looks like his dad or not? Of all the people I've known in my life, I've never once met a father and son who'll whip out thier dicks and marvel at the similarity of them.

What the FVCK does it matter that you think that it doesn't matter? Its your opinion, and no more or less valid than anyone elses. :D

I think we had a misunderstanding. I'm saying that supposedly uncut is more sensitive than cut - for exactly the reason you gave.

1) Doing something because it's the norm is a pretty stupid reason. Also, it's on the decline, so it's getting to be less of the normal thing to do anyway. If everyone always just did stuff because it was normal, we'd still be living in caves.

2) Little kids' foreskins do not retract. They do not get dirty because they're essentially fused to the penis. By the time they can retract, kids will be bathing themselves and perfectly capable of spending an extra 10 seconds washing thier penis. Ears are more difficult to clean than uncircumcised penises.

3) First off, you admit this is a stupid argument, but even so: how shallow/slutty does a woman have to be to let something like that bother her?

Why the heck would you let the wife decide an issue like that? She, just by basic biology, is not nearly as qualified as you to make that kind of a decision. When your daughter first got her period, and needed pads/tampons would it make sense for your wife to say, "I'll let my husband decide"?

Wife knows what women like. And I don't want to be in charge of my kid's penis.

Pre = before.
You are saying the same thing. It's just you both misunderstood each other.

DougK62 says "A bad thing is that it reportedly causes loss of sensation"
WhiteKnight says "A friend says he had loss of sensation after circumcision"
Same thing, see?

Leave it uncut. If the kid wants to go for circumcision later on in life, it's his choice.

There will be more pain later on in life, but I'm sure most can deal with it. Heard it's on the level of getting your wisdom teeth pulled which I haven't seen anyone end their lives over.

Why does it matter? How often do you expect to be looknig at your sons penis so that you're willing to take a knife to his to make it look the way you want?

I guess your opinion is jsut as valid as mine, but I still would like to hear the reasoning behind it. Are you really willing to cut off a part of your child's dick to aviod answering the question (that will likely never be asked anyway) of "Why does mine look different?"

And answer me one more question:
If you read a story about a family in which it was tradition to tattoo the family name on every child's back at birth, would you think that it was an acceptable practice?

I was in error. I thought he was saying that there was greater sensitivity post-circumcision. I have edited my original post.

There was a study done pretty recently in Australia (where circumcision is more accepted) concerning women's sexual satisfaction and circumcision. Among women who had slept with both cut and uncut men, over 90% reported that they received greater satisfaction from uncircumcised men.

I'm circumcised btw. My kid probably won't be.

Fore-skin acts as additional lubrication. You can also faap without lotion ;)

This is true. I'd imagine it's one of the main reasons to have a foreskin in the animal kingdom. No lube required.

I gave you my reason in my original post. You ovbiously disagree with that reason. I dont' think the procedure has any lasting impact on the kid's psyche, if I did I would not have had my son circumsized.

Anyone else find it amusing that we are having a serious discussion in a thread entitled, "Would you Circumcise you manchild"?

In addition to that, notfred isn't thinking too far in advance.

If you don't cut him and then one day he asks, "Dad, why didn't you circumcise me? Now all the kids in school make fun of me." You can always reply, "Son, if it had been my decision, I would have circumcised you, but this was something your mother insisted on."

If you do cut him and then one day he asks, "Dad, why did you circumcise, me? That's so old-fashioned and you should have let me do it if I wanted to when I grow up." You can then reply, "Son, if it had been my decision, I wouldn't have circumcised you, but this was something that your mother insisted on."

:p

No. I was not circumcised (though my dad was) and I have never asked my dad why I wasn't circumcised nor do I care. I know why I wasn't (I was already under a great deal of pain when born and circumcision would have been additional trauma that I didn't need), and I've never been ridiculed or laughed at (once, in 7th grade) because of it. For someone to bring that up is childish, IMO.

No.
I don't live in the US, circumcision is mostly done on religious basis here.
Only a very small percentage of the population is circumcised.

Circumcision is rare where I live and is mostly only done for medical reasons. Many people consider it to be child abuse and is only widely done in third world countries and america.

Would many of you pro-circumcision people also do the same thing to your daughter and if not why would you only mutilate your sons?

I ask that same question to many people who are staunch advocates of male circumcision (who incidentally are usually harsh critics of the practice of female circumcision), and they usually don't have an answer beyond "it's more hygienic", which doesn't matter because as long as you shower once a day and wash yourself you're fine.
