would you buy a house that someone died in?

I am in escrow for a condominium unit and I just found out someone passed away in there in Feburary. Since then, the whole condo has been renovated, they changed all the carpet, fresh paint, new cabinets, etc. The person that passed in the unit was an elderly man, not too sure about the details, but most likely cause was from old age. Not knowing about the details, I am not sure how long the elderly man has been dead in the unit before his body was discovered... being asian, my parents are kind of freaking out about this and want me to drop out of escrow (i will get all my deposit back), i am not sure what to do. I have about 2-3 days to think about if i want to drop it or not. So, i ask you ATOTers, would you buy a place that someone died in?

I live in a house that somebody died in. If you buy an older house, it's probably a good bet that someone died there. So far I haven't died, so I can only assume that dying in a house is not contagious.

This.

I would but my wife would not. She even asked some realtors that question.

Our house was built in the 50's so there is a good chance someone died here. Mind you I did not tell her that line of thinking and no one else could say that anybody has. So its our house now... dead people and all. 🙂

Forgot to add, my wife is asian so maybe that has something to do with it?

If I had a choice between houses, it'd be a big factor. In your position, I'd say it depends how freaked out your parents really are. You will never hear the end of it.

Considering the neighborhood I grew up in had houses in the 110+ year old range, it's probably safe to say someone died in all of them. Or how about before the house was built? For all you know there could have been 2 indian tribes who hacked eachother to peices on that very spot.

The neigborhood im trying to buy a house in is about 45 years old, most of the houses are 35-45 years old. And were mostly lived in by older people. Probably safe to say some people croaked in a lot of those houses as well. Theres really nothing to worry about since if you go bakc far enough, a lot of people probably died within a short range of any given spot on the planet.

I'd buy a house where the whole family was murdered in it. Who cares, it's a house.

Would you perform said service beforehand so you could get a better deal? 😛

I thought I caught "dying in a house" once. Turns out I was just really bored.

Old house, people died in it. New house, Indian burial ground underneath it. Good luck buying a house if you're superstitious about everything.

I do, but she was elderly and died of natural causes, now if it was a house where someone was killed like in the Wonderland Murders.....no probably not.

The idea of blood soaked into the floor, walls and ceilings is just a bit too creepy....I don't care what you use, you can never get all that sh*t out.

Is it the house that melty posted pictures of? :ninja:

I'd want a house where the most people have died in it. Otherwise I'd get lonely if I don't have dead people to talk to.

The question is would you buy a house or the house where someone was killed by three children and their mom being tortured to death like in the film The Girl Next Door 2007 ?

Does it have hidden rooms? I think I'd want to move there extra.

it should be alright unless you or your parents possess similiar skills as that kid in 'the sixth sense'.

My wife and I were looking at houses a while back, I saw one that interested me that was basically acrossed the street from a cemetary. She wanted nothing to do with it. Guess she's afraid of zombies.

That's one of the best places to live, you have quiet neighbors who won't be parking broken cars in their driveway or having loud parties. They also won't build a second addition blocking your view.
