Jie said Geely's cars started at $4,000 (2,200 pounds) for its smallest, most basic runaround, rising to $10,000 for larger, sportier models. Only the smallest European city cars sell for less than five figures.

when i get $4000 to kick around, i would probably give it a spin.

you say no, but if you needed a cheap, economical runabout i suspect you'd take a good look at them ;)

Doesn't look too bad. At $4,000, you would treat it as a disposable car, like the old Yugos.

Not for a few years, they are going to start off just like Hyundai and Kia did, extremely cheap little cars that have no reliability or crashworthyness whatsoever.

Geely has been around for quite some time.... I knew they made mopeds... I never knew they made cars. I'm pretty sure they'll be a little better then Kia's and Hyundai's.

Hyundai and Kia had been around for quite a while in their home market before they started exporting to the US. It still took them nearly 20 years to get to where people trust them enough to buy them without worry.

But they have been around for awhile unlike the other two (meaning they didnt start from scratch and start selling) and Im sure the chinese people havent been putting up with unreliable cars. Plus to compete with the thoes two Im sure they will have to match the warranty they provide. And if they do with a car starting at $4000 with a 10y 100K warranty they will sell like hot cakes.

That about sums it up.

I think they have a big enough market inside their own country.

If they are selling well enough to the billions there that they have to export, why the hell would I want one?
