What a glorious show. :(

To the Fraggles!

Pa Gorg: Junior, are you sure this isn't another one of your dumb hair-brained schemes?
Junior Gorg: No, Pa, this is one of my smart hair-brained schemes!

Be a man, use concentrated HCl.

They sell that at walmart... it will eat toilet paper, flushed rags, and everything...
you just have to vaseline any crome on your drain prior to dumping it down the drain.
powerful sh1t, but it works.

In most cases it won't hurt the pipes, but it won't do much good either.

What were you hoping to accomplish?

Create a cloud of steam in his shower, and a pool of scalding water?

Then he'll be in good shape! :p

Erm. How about unscrewing the stopper and taking out the blockage? The blockage is probably sitting right inside the drain. Unless of course you managed to stuff something large through such tiny holes. :)

Definitely snake it. It's free, usually will fix your problem (definitely more effective than boiling hot water), and is considerably less toxic than Draino (or whatever).

It's only free if you already own a snake...

If any women live there, It's probably hair clogging the drain.
Maybe all you need to do is plunge it to get the hair out ....

so, this method actually worked for me...
like a half cup of baking soda packed into the drain, add vinegar until the reaction stops, then add about a quarter bottle of dawn or similar emulsifier with hot water from the shower. Should clear up most of the crap.

Another vote for ZipIt

The best price I've seen is around $2.38 at Walmart in the plumbing department.

snake from Home Depot ftw.

I called a professional in and watched him use it. Just a lot of gunked-up-grease down there (wow we must be dirrrrty.. or it's the products). Not a lot of hair like you'd expect.

I got banned for a month for a crack almost identical to that one :(. Amazing what kind of nasty stuff you can make with household chemicals.

You could try pouring lighter fluid down the drain and dropping in a match. I'm sure that would get rid of the clog.

Eww.

It isn't pretty but it's effective without using harmful and expensive chemicals.

At our old house the shower drain was always getting clogged due to the design of the hole and angle of the drain pipe... Most of it was usually just stuck right near the neck of the drain just below the tub so I used to unscrew it and take out that nast junk sitting right there.

Other times I used a product called PEQUA (sp?) that I got from HD. Its in a white bottle with Maroon print. Worked wonders everytime, but its damn expensive.
