Finally had to do a root canal because of it :| (btw he did not admit to screwing me up, later the dental hygenist said something to me because she felt bad). Then, he apparently did not get the roots all out, so they festered for years. When I was out of grad school I went to a new dentist who immediately sent me to an oral surgeon (another $800 after insurance). When my husband went to him (just after the first incident), he ended up in ER and had to go to an oral surgeon because his tooth got so infected that his facre swelled up on the right side, so much that his eye swelled shut. It was super-awkward because all of my dept went to him and RAVED about him, but once it was totally clear it was not just bad luck we fled. The clincher: name is Dr. Au.
Sorry about your experiences, but lol at the name :D

Hated my dentist... he was a jerk (but outstanding in his profession)

So, I went to another dentist when I had a cavity.
Quick filling. Didn't get out all the decay. Continued decaying for years. Ate a hard pretzel, tooth chipped/cracked, losing most of the tooth. Made appointment to see that dentist... had to wait nearly a month before I could get in. Thought I could survive - had to pull over while driving because of the severe pain at one point. Went to the local dental clinic - xrays and looked at my tooth... "you're going to need a root canal. It's going to be a hard one to do, so I'm recommending you to.... " guess who!? My original dentist. Went back to him, he did a great job, no pain, and said that there was a chance that I might make it without a root canal. 3 months later, the "temporary" stuff he put on it is working great. Just have to make a new appointment to get the temp stuff off and a permanent crown to replace it.

Dentist try to remove one of my tooth( the last one behind in my mouth ) but had difficulty to remove it because there was skin on it.So he had to cut skins but in the process he cut one of the little blood vessel.

Result: I lost 1 LITRE of blood, he drive me to the emergency hospital to have a facial surgery to repair the inside of my mouth. He didnt have the proper equipment to fix "these rare" problems.

No i didnt sue him because he was one of my friend and he always make me deals. And i guess the way my back tooths are done itsd hard to remove.I also went to see him back to remove the other side one..and same result happen...BUT this time instead of continuing removing the tooth, he stopped and told me i need to go to the hospital to remove the tooth.

But it was a scary moment, specificly when you open you mouth and you see the blood flowing everywhere :(.And because of that i miss 1 weeks of work( a first in 8 years like at the job i am working )

I had oral surgery two days before my birthday...
Had to have the roof of my mouth split for an expander...
And the upper sides all around had to be cut...
Basically they severed my upper jaw from the bone...
On a positive note they cut the nerve too...
That and the vicadine helped ease the pain..
...
I was just able to cut up a Krispy Kreme original doughnut into little pieces and eat for my bday...
I still was barely able to chew it or open my mouth...

my dentist is one of those psycho/mad scientist types. i was kinda nervous when i first went in there, but the guy has a ton of experience and knows what he was doing. i went there once to get a tooth pulled and i was in and out in fifteen minutes, and didn't feel a thing. same with a root canal.

I had all four wisdom teeth pulled.... all were impacted or partial bone impaction. He gave me novicaine and began breaking and shattering the teeth out of my skull... oops the novicaine WORE OFF after halfway through so for the next two teeth I felt like every nerve was being jammed with a white hot knife. The pain was intense and tears began to form in my eye from it, and he said oh dont worry i will be done soon. I couldn't talk or tell him it was worn off...

/shudder

oh, and the one left a hole up through my mouth into my sinus cavity so my nose would bleed from my mouth out....

This year

I had a deep cavity filled and he offered novicaine and I said nah.... He asked if i was sure 3 times, and then another 6 times before it was over. It hurt like hell when he hit my nerves, but compared to teeth sensitivity to hot/cold, and my previous experience, it could have been worse ;)

I have a good friend who is a Dentist, and he says he has SEVERAL patients who
decline gas/shots as they either like the pain or are trying to "get tough" (Army Ranger types).

OUCH!

"Is it safe?"

I worked at a dentist's for four years, got a couple of stories:

Once, the chap I worked with actually extracted the wrong tooth! Wasn't the end of the earth, the patient didn't really need the tooth and I think it had extensive caries down to the pulp, but nevertheless, a mistake was made. He took the correct tooth out and actually saved the patient £35 as he didn't charge them for the other tooth :D

Secondly, we were doing some serious work. Twin extraction of the front two teeth with false teeth immediately put in place over the wound (wound heals around false teeth: looks a million times better), so lots of work needed to be done. The dentist was sitting over the patient (ie patient's head was kind of above his crotch, dentist was looking down) with his mask down. In a moment of deep concentration a long string of drool came out the dentist's mouth and nearly fell on the patient. Luckily he brushed it away with about 3 inches to spare before the patient got a wet suprise (haad their eyes closed!).

Good fun days.

I recently had a root canal from hell.

i am getting serious dental work done... and on one side of my mouth i have a space that they will fill with CrownBridgeCrown. The tooth from the fisrt crown needed the root canal... but I was in agony with it for two weeks. they were not sure if there was really the need for a roots canal or just my being sensitive to the reduction of the tooth to fit the crown. So, after a week, i went back in and they adjusted the crown a bit.. and after the second week... they said.. uh-oh should have been ok by now... you need a root canal...

well, they could not numb it at all... not matter what they did, they could not numb it... it was considered a hot tooth and i could only be partially numb. So, there i sat.. getting a root canal, with tears streaming down my face cause i felt the whole fvcking thing.

:)

I wonder if the patient was a hot chic for the dentist to be drooling and sitting like that ;)

I went in for a regular cleaning. He decided to put me under, I woke up two hours later with a sore bunghole and a funny taste in my mouth. My teeth were nice and white too.

I run into this every once in awhile. Some people just hate the feeling of being numb.

As to the saftey of getting work done without anesthesia, it is safe. The only risk would be with patients with high blood pressure. Pain releases catacholamines which work to raise BP. I've never heard of it causing a problem but it is the reason that oral surgeons still give local anesthesia to patients who are under general anesthesia.

It's best when the dentist is a hot female and sits by your head..
If you angle your head just right...:D
