World U.S. Navy Issues Alcohol Ban on Sailors in Japan

Wow!! A US Navy in Japan with no alcohol.......ouch!!

No Sake?????

https://www.yahoo.com/news/u-navy-issues-alcohol-ban-114712703.html

The U.S. Navy on Monday announced it is temporarily banning sailors stationed in Japan from drinking alcohol on or off base following the arrest of one of its sailors who was allegedly drunk driving when she caused a car crash that injured two people.

The commander of the U.S. Naval Forces in Japan said a recent “trend” of alcohol-related incidents were “detrimental” to the alliance between the U.S. and Japan. “These measures are not taken lightly,” Rear Admiral Matthew Carter, commander of U.S. naval forces in Japan, said in a statement.

“For decades, we have enjoyed a strong relationship with the people of Japan,” Carter added. “It is imperative that each Sailor understand how our actions affect that relationship, and the U.S.-Japan Alliance as a whole.”

The ban is effective immediately and will be in place until further notice from top officials. It also includes restrictions on off-base liberty—or time off from the daily work routine— until face-to-face trainings with unit leaders are conducted.

Ah, the military. "Here's one fuck up, so you're all punished".

Yep lets do it in the states😱 This is bull shit one size don't fit all! This is getting out of control no one is going to volunteer for any service if they keep this up.... maybe this is what the leadership wants! If that's the case they better be willing to step up the pay a hell of a lot more.

So true. They should go into those bars and get the Japanese girls drunk to unconsciousness and then rape them. We could probably reduce their pay to peanuts. They are in the military. They don't have to take no stinking orders.

Military, nothin'. That's pretty much every manager in every business ever. Purely reactionary.

Driver bumped his elbow learning an arm out the window? No one should ever have their arms out the windows ever again - problem solved!

On person took a few too many pens from the supply closet? Ban everyone completely, and no more supplies. Problem solved! 🙄

Making stupid blanket rules is all they seem to know how to do...

Yup the stupid nazis have created a temporary ban until they can get some more serious training in place. You know how nazis are. They just look for reasons of threats to bilateral security benefits to turn the thumb screws on sailors.

I think you had some serious issues with parental authority like maybe raised by idiots.....?

I just adore those cans man. Nice cans. 😉

As an aside, as far as the ban being instituted because a few nitwits couldn't behave like yer regular functioning alcoholic, that goes right back to Basic Training, MOS 11B School and the lessons learned therein about how the aberrant behavior of a single team member can kill all of those other team members within a hundred yard radius.

If I recall, (which is getting more and more difficult for me) that rule wasn't applied often, but when it was, the acceptance of it was without surprise, nor was there any kind of public display of objection or defiance.

It was just another shitty deal in another shitty day to get over with.

Don't know if I mentioned this before, but years back there were a few Marines sharing a place down the block from my home. Well, one of them got stupid drunk one night and proceeded to knock down about a dozen mail boxes along the street before he could be roped in and tied down for the night.

The very next morning, his gunny dragged his ass up and down the street, having the sorry lcpl and his housemates knock on doors, apologize and either repair to the owner's satisfaction or pay for the repair of the damaged mailboxes.

I'm going to dream tonight about being the gunny for P & N.

Good.

Now let's have that applied to the other branches and throw in an immediate dishonorable plus jail time stateside for those found guilty. No brig, no stockade. How about a state prison with a hard labor regimen?

Unless we get serious about it, criminals in uniform will continue to harm others while enjoying military protections as much as possible.

Given how many females are victimized within our own military, I'd say the DoD should ban alcohol on every installation, regardless of location. You want to party? Then you applied for the wrong job. Drink that shit when you don't wear a uniform and aren't a representative of our country and military.

The Navy has been in the no alcohol culture for probably the last 20 years or so. Gone are the "drinking for your Dolphins" days when you qualified for submarines. (Fill beer pitcher with anything and everything alcoholic and put the Dolphin pin in the bottom). It's really a good thing, cause when I first started working around the Nayv over 35 years ago it was a really different story. Hell, it used to be kind of an initiation for a Chief who got in trouble to go to the alcohol rehab training. It was like the opposite of a demerit.
Now if you are a non com (except for Chiefs) you might get one chance with an alcohol related incident. If you are a Chief or above it's probably a career ending event.

As for the Marines, even though they are part of the Navy. It's a completely different world.

Goes to about 100 years if you are talking about it on vessels, but yes, I am aware.

This issue clearly states that there is still too much alcohol in this 'no alcohol culture.'

Obviously you've never heard of service personnel being sent to Leavenworth and serving sentences that include hard labor. They would be far luckier to be sent to a US prison where they're no such thing as hard labor. That whole unfair treatment stuff that applies to civilian prisons and not to military prison.

Not at all, you're just clinging to an unfounded assumption instead of asking me to elaborate.

But now I don't even feel like it. If you are really submitting that a federal stockade is on the same level of misery and punishment as say, Angola (aka The Farm), in Louisiana, well, you made yourself stupid enough to not warrant a reply.

Go plant some rice or something, save your indignation for someone who gives a fuck.

hahahahah my daughter is stationed in Japan, her ship went out to sea on Friday for the next 4 months. im sure the crew of the Reagan have been briefed on this but im going to email her the story anyway. HAHAHAHAHAH
